I don't know what movie you were watching, but they worked together because circumstances forced them to, but I don't think Bud White and Ed Exley were ever friends. Hell, once both their characters had sex with Kim Basinger's Lynn, there was no way these two were ever going to be friends...they may have co-existed, but friends?

I don't know about this one...these were five actors on location for the same movie, virtual strangers at the beginning of the movie and there were several moments where Alpa Chino wanted to strangle Kirk Lazzarus because he really resented that Lazzarus got his role by having his skin pigmented instead of the role going to an actual black man. I would hardly call these guys BFF's.
