I don't even know how to respond to that freak.
The LOTR trilogy is not on my list of top books, but it is one of the best, if not the best, story I've ever heard. The reason it is not on the book list is because Tolkein could be a little verbose.
Oh look it has dragons and elves and orcs it must be rubbish. Come on. This is a very meaningful piece of literature. Do you know why Sauron and Saruman were portrayed as people who would sacrifice the environment for more power, efficiency, or whatever? Tolkein witnessed his home town get polluted by industry and he didn't like it.
Then there is the ring, do you know when Tolkein started working on this book, started forming the ideas? When he was fighting in World War II? Do you remember what happened in World War II? The world entered the nuclear age. Now what do you think the ring represents?
If you had ultimate power would you be brave enough to cast it away and destroy it?
The Lord of the Rings is not about elves, orcs, and dwarves. It is about people, it is about sacrifice, it is about friendship, it is about pity, it is about justice. It is an epic like no other.
I feel sorry for you that you can't see that.
