Top Five American Westerns?

Tools

I don't actually wear pants.
When John Wayne died my bros and I had a massive weekend marathon. I liked everything I saw him in.
Cool. I've never thought Wayne a great actor, but he can help support a film pretty well. He fit his roles well, which got help from his build. He was about 6'4", and about 250, so he looked rather intimidating.

I hd a huge crush on him when I was a kid. Devastated when he died.

Top 5 purely American Westerns for me:

1) The Searchers
2) Rio Bravo
3) McCabe & Mrs. Miller
4) The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
5) Stagecoach

There are lots of other great ones of course and there are still a whole bunch of very highly rated ones that I haven't seen yet. I've barely scratched the surface of this genre so far.

[i]Little Big Man]

That was great. And the book was even better.

Heaven's Gate (1980)
Meeks Cutoff (2010)
Tombstone (1993)
The Big Country (1958)
The Bravados (1958)

I could make that all 5 Eastwood, or all 5 John Ford, there's way too many to name just 5.

“Hell will hold no surprises for you.”
1. The Wild Bunch
2. The Searchers
3. Unforgiven
4. The Outlaw Josey Wales
5. Tombstone

1. Unforgiven
2. The Wild Bunch
3. McCabe & Mrs. Miller
4. Little Big Man
5. "Lonesome Dove"

In no particular order

True Grit (the 2010 remake)
Meek's Cutoff (2010)
There Will Be Blood (2007)
Unforgiven (1992)
3:10 to Yuma (1957)

Welcomed gladly, and spurned by everyone

All good people are asleep and dreaming.
My favorite genre is Western, and I watch as many as possible from anywhere possible. I put it to you, my fine friends - what are your top five American westerns? TV shows and miniseries count, though I abhor you not to list episodes. Anything else is fine. Here's mine:

Hatfields & McCoys
Hell on Wheels
El Dorado
Wild Bunch
Dead Man

Your turn!

Um, Once Upon a Time in the West is Italian, not American.
Um, anything on your list not made in America?

That elusive hide-and-seek cow is at it again
I never was much of one for westerns, but I enjoyed the following. I adored the first two on the list far more than I probably should. I mean... like.... therapy level of concern.

Free Range
Deadwood
Unforgiven
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
The Outlaw Josey Wales

Seraphim Falls

This really should be on my list as well. I think I saw it 12 times.

This is the biggest gap in my knowledge of American cinema. I just don't feel compelled to watch these.

High Plains Drifter
The Hateful Eight
Pale Rider
Unforgiven
Tombstone

Those are my faves, I'm sure there are much more historically lauded Westerns, probably from the 40's and 50's that I have not seen yet.
