North Venetan in Primiero, Veronese in the southern valley and Arcaic Vicentin in the Valsugana.
in Trènt, they actually spoke a variant of East-Lombard but it got "venetized", so that this one can be counted as a fourth Venetan variant spoken only in Trentin.
i heard of course people speaking it, but very few in Trènt itself, unfortunately.
road signs, books, names of shops and museums depict the importance of Venetan thoughout the region, east and south.

here a small lesson if you ever visit in the same respectfull spirit i do myself.

bon dì - hello
bòna sera - good evening
bòna nòt - good night
el me scusa - excuse me
per piaçer - please
graçie - thank you
vorìa... - i'd like...
el me daga... - give me please...
capìu l'inglese? - do you understand English?
no parlo trentin - i don't speak Trentino
me piax sta çità - i like this town
andó pòsso catar...? - where can i find...?
me pòdelo dir andó se trova...? - could you tell me where is...?
i understood most of this...it sounds like a weird mix between italian and portugese...

get your facts straight buddy boy...ISTRA is a part of CROATIA ( HRVATSKA ) and only a handful of people still speak that language....the remnants of an oppressive system that is over and done with now, thankfully...

don't be a hypocrite, you're the one that is forcing the idea that italy is a multi national country when all those people actually consider themselves italians....i wonder who they were rooting for in this football championship*scratches head*...do they feel oppressed by the almighty "italians" ( and in your mind, is there even such a thing as the italian nation?? )
and the ex-girlfriend comment is very mature coming from someone almost twice my age....
you don't deal well with opposing opinions do you?

I believe he's talking about me, as your "ex girlfriend". You'll have to forgive him, he's too busy correcting everyone on their language to make sense himself.

He's also firmly convinced that if you state objective facts that differ from his opinions, that you do it only because you don't like him. Facts be damned. I once posted a map of Spain and he nearly had to be hospitalized from the resultant hissy fit. This Italian thing will only buy you a year's worth of harassment.

yes, i understood that he meant you...hence the immature comment from me...that kind of thing i would expect from a 9 year old..not a 38 year old man....and sorry is the day when I repremand someone for being immature....

i realize he thinks he can state bulls*it opinions like "italy is a multi national country" and expect not to be challanged by our north american members who have never seen italy...but i go to italy twice a year and that sh*t don't fly with me...

No arguements here.

that said,
1) i know that for the moment France, Italy, UK, Spain... exist and it would be stupid to deny their present (i.e. historical) existence (still, i allow myself to do so as a joke once in a while, as well as a freeing technique to relax a lil bit), which doesn't mean that one, intelligent person, has to accept the status quo as it is (same thing about all things in this world, social, ecological, etc. crises and issues...) - actually, one can oppose oneself to it, and want to change it, thus making possible a turn in history (well, of course, not one person alone...), what is what happened throughout history
2) i don't defend a completely virtual-reality-alternative either. you're right when you say most (especially young) people feel Italian in Italy. you're right when you point out the presence of Italian (overwhelming it's true, sadly enough) in cities like Milan - i see it myself, what dya think?) BUT
you're wrong and blind on purpose if you say there are no other languages in Italy, or that they are not used anymore - go to Venice and you'll hear it on the streets, have 10 Italian friends and you'll see that at least 6-7 speak another language, even if they call it dialect (depending on the region, of course, Veneto being especially strong since 9 of 10 people i know from there speak Venetan at home, and it'S even stronger in the south, where most children speak Neapolitan or Sicilian)
see, this is where you're wrong, i never said there AREN'T different languages in italy, i took your word for it as i assume you know what you're talking about and can tell the difference between a language and a dialect....where you and i disagree is that language equals nationality....i simply don't think it's true...and in the case of italy, i think they're all italians, they feel italian despite the fact that they perhapse speak different languages....and they ALL know how to speak italian...
plus, from what i've heard, italian dialects/languages are in common use in every region meaning they are in a better position than most minority languages/dialects....and still, there is NO awareness of a separate national identity....which is something you pruposfully neglect to mention....
where ever there is such an awareness, i'm all for separation and the creation of a separate country....

yes, i thought the sign was funny, i should have said something about it, but i chose to tease you instead...i'm not opposed to everything you post, this italian thing just happens to be the thing that i don't agree with you on...

main difference, we've always had a separate national identity, the REGIONS you speak of have not....and do not....if and when they start to think of themselves as Genovese or Milanese MORE THAN ITALIAN, then your case will be made and i'll agree...

oh sorry, you don't know what a noun is? plus, i proved many times you're incapable of learning, even a simple word like this one i already had pointed at months ago...

all that agressivity directed toward a small frog in his pond who thought the pics published here would be interesting, and who knows? delighting the eyes of some Mofos...
you don't deserve the work and time involved here. this really isn't the place it was when intelligent people were still around (miss you Anon), or hadn't gotten under the influence of two-three untouchable icons, which is much easier in this rotten society (although she'll keep telling you the opposite) if you're
1) a woman,
2) seemingly fighting for rights people already have (women, blacks, the more trite and common the better)
3) NOT fighting for things that are not yet accepted by the majority, since what you want is to be loved by the majority!!
4) being funny, but not too agressively so, and throwing in a few seemingly nice-and-sunny-California happy things like "i love you all, i love everyone (well, except..)"

and all this for what? go back one step: the only time she felt like posting here before yesterday was to, very constructively, ask for a t-shirt...
...which, being the nice me and all, i brought back for her, at least virtually. never commented the pics in the meanwhile. no, kept lurking for her moment, whenever a discussion arose. and here she comes then. what a plague.

you're right, having to do with you big plague can send many to the hospital!
I don't understand much of that, but it seems really nasty.

Try to be nice, eh?

Yes, it was very nasty.

Chicago...please don't make this into another Spain thread. You're getting yourself worked up again. And, before you go into defense mode...just go back and re-read your 'ex-girlfriend' swipe. You have a tendancy to make little digs from time to time and if someone says something, the situation quickly mushrooms. Can you please drop this and be nice?

i don't have anything against subjectivity (you know one of my principles is that everything is subjective and that got me trouble already) but a subjectivity you are not aware of is hypocrisy!

Chicago. I just wanted you to stop and really think about things before it blows out of porportion and into something that never should have happened.

I've never said that, because it isn't true.
I'm not going to bother trying to decipher the rest of your hateful spewings - you've demonstrated time and again that you sh*t your pants when called on your posturing, you've already started here. All it takes is someone saying "wait a minute..." and you demonize and condescend. Have your thread, call people names and pretend that you're morally superior all you want. Nobody's buying it, you're a joke.

The People's Republic of Clogher
It's nice to see that the frog has developed into the most well-balanced person on MoFo...with a chip on both shoulders.

Why on earth should someone ignore a thread when it contains one of your usual cheap little digs in their direction? If MoFo "really isn't the place it was" then shut the door on your way out.

You know, froggy, for someone with such a hard on for the 'correct' usage of language, your English sucks.

I'd appreciate it if you'd stop butchering my native tongue.

You're not a translator, nor are you based out of the US. I give you a free pass. And you do very well for a non-professional in a second language.

Besides, you're not lecturing people about linguistic propriety.
