Are people really having trouble with Canadian films or is a case of thinking they're American? I understand that my love of horror means that I could probably come up with a few more Canadian films than some, but even if you limited yourself to Cronenberg films you'll end up with a decent choice.
I'm a Canadian, and I will honestly admit that we are a society of dumbed-down, talentless people. It is only when Americans become involved in the film productions of movies otherwise made by a Canadian that the film becomes worth while.

I've a large family, so when we get together I will occasionally quiz the youngsters (ie. teenagers) on what I've always taken as being common knowledge. In school, they tend to be good students, but they still know almost nothing. If I ask about the Vietnam War, they'll reply with "What's Vietnam?"; if I mention Cary Grant, the typical reply is "Who's she?"

I'm not saying Americans are any better; I should hope that they are, but I do not have great expectations.

I've sent a copy of this post to the NFB, who will then in turn send it to the King's National Palace. Prepare to be deported.

Ouch, I better get my talentless ass over to the States then where I can ride the coat tails of others.

Yeah, yeah, I do realize Ogie is going the other direction.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
My three favorite Canadian films are probably The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Lies My Father Told Me and Jesus of Montreal. Then there's always Guy Maddin.

I need to add The Silent Partner to up it to four.

I wish it were that easy.

Regardless of what you say, the British said the same thing when they were here. I read a newspaper article about a year ago that described the sentiments of British politicians staying in Canada; most insisted that we were a society of talentless people incapable of artistry.

SCTV produced in Canada with mostly Canadian comics was great.

Da Vinci Inquest one of the greatest televsion sereis of all times with an outstanding actor starring.

Almost everything else I saw from Canada was fair to crap.

Mark f's list is pretty close to the extent of quality Canadian movies and most of those have some Hollywood talent.

Also The Sweet Hereafter, but it is a very thin list.

Kitsch What a brilliant idea !!!!!!I am writting down a bunch of movies that have been suggested here...

I saw the Brazilian movie "Tropa de Elite" and loved it. I have a soft spot for action movies and that is one of the most action adrenaline movies i've seen it.

India-3 idiot

I've been watching far more foreign films lately than I usually do, so I thought I'd make a list of my favorite per country. I'd be greatly interested in seeing other lists.

USA - T2: Judgment Day
UK - Don't Take Candy From Strangers
Germany - The Lives of Others
Italy - La Sconosciuta
France - Au Revoir Les Enfants
India - B13
Japan - Audition
Sweden - My Life as a Dog
Denmark - Du Er Ikke Alene
Spain - Bad Education
Russia - The Thief
B13 or District B13 is from France, if I'm not mistaken.

Brazil - Cidade de Deus
Denmark - Män som hatar kvinnor
France - Léon
Spain - Abre los ojos

China-Curse of the Golden Flower
Japan-Seven Samurai
U.S.-Lord Of The Rings
Germany-Das Boot
Australia-The Wave
Sorry Canada, Ive seen many, many excellent Canadian movies, but for the life of me I cant think of the titles. I think Canada produced some of the best films ever.

I'll take every country with at least three movies watched:

Argentina: The secret in their eyes
Australia: Babe
Belgium: A town called panic
Brazil: City of God
Canada: Videodrome
China: Hero
Czechoslovakia: Happy end
Denmark: Valhalla rising
France: Wages of fear
Germany: The cabinet of Dr Caligari
India: The chess players
Iran: Turtles can fly
Ireland: Once
Italy: For a few dollars more
Japan: Grave of the fireflies
Mexico: Nazarin
Poland: Day of the wacko
South Korea: Oldboy
Spain: Not on your life
Sweden: Persona
Taiwan: Lust, caution
UK: Monty Python's Life of Brian
USA: The elephant man
USSR: Come and see
Yugoslavia: Underground

Trying to put together a list like this would drive me mad.

But nice to see A Town Called Panic and Underground, jal90.
I guess it's convenient enough to have all my stuff rated in several websites .

Underground is an overall favorite, around the top30-40. It's interesting because the first time I tried it I couldn't get past the first 45 minutes. My rewatch only happened a few months later but my experience was completely different from the very beginning. It's one of the weirdest things that have happened to me because I don't even remember being in a different mood or something like that.

A town called panic is very recent, like two weeks ago. It was a kind of hard thing to get used to, because of the animation style it uses and how little it cares for making the characters look real and/or lively, but the absurdistic storyline is pretty awesome.
