Yeah, I'd like to see a scarier, more sadistic Joker because that'll fit with the "founded in reality" standard that the new Batman films will undoubtedly employ. Less of a cartoon, more of a serial killer.

It's a shame Cillian Murphy can't be considered, I thought he was great in Batman Begins, would like to have seen his character more fully developed though.
Chris Eccleston is another great choice. He'd be an actor who could portray the more "serial killer" side of Joker, with just a little touch of mania. I don't think he's too unknown, either - or at least no more unknown to the general public than Cillian Murphy. (And who cares how big a name is, as long as the character is done right?)

Here to support the villians.......
need some more convincing for Eccleston as the Joker

I just read that the next villian may, in fact, be Two Face and 2 possibilities are Justin Timberlake and Liev Schreiber....

I am not quite sure of Liev Schreiber, but Justin Timberlake's involvement is a flat out rumor (thank God!).

I've heard weirder Timberlake news today- he's going to play the boyfriend of a sex-addicted Christina Ricci in Black Snake Moan, from the guy that made that Hustle and Flow film that was a big hit at Sundance.

Seems the Trousersnake is linked with loads of movies at the moment.
Is he any good as an actor???
IMO its has to be a rumour about him playing 2Face, I think Chris Nolan won't make those sort of misplaced decisions.
When will theses popstars learn, stick to what you're good(or not so good at-P.Diddy) at and leave the acting alone, I'm fed up with rappers and other popstars appearing in films, I have yet to see one of them give a decent and believeable performance.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, Ice Cube wasn't too shabby in Three Kings. And even if the guy can't act, I can forgive him because he was in NWA.

No, the next villian will be the Joker. Harvey Dent may appear, but the Joker is the next villian.

Yeah suppose it would seem like that but what if Harvey Dent in the sequel took the main focus while Joker is built in the background up for the threequel? Perhaps Bruce and Dent could be searching for Joker when Dent becomes Two Face somehow and takes Batman's priority leaving Joker to, say, kill off his love interest in the climax.
I think it would be cool, cuz Joker is Batman's nemesis and it would give more time to make that clear and if we only see Joker's face at the end after he kills someone close to Wayne it would create a much fiercer villian for the next installment.

Here's my source for J-T and Two Face

I agree, in fact someone had previously suggested that they keep Katie Holmes just for that first part of the sequel to maintain continuum, and because she represents the remaining aspect of Bruce Wayne's former life that lingers on. Then somewhere at the beginning of the movie have the Joker finish her off, plunging the Batman deeper into darkness. Meanwhile have Harvey Dent take over the role of assistant D.A, who unwitting ends up aiding Batman in his quest for vengeance through his friendship with Bruce Wayne. But while Batman finally manages to put down the Joker (will assume it will not be an easy fight), he loses his new friend and confidante Harvey Dent when he's transformed into Two-Face. Here the movie ends with Bruce Wayne overcome with regret on how much good he's doing with an alter ego (since now he's indirectly caused the death of a friend, and the insanity of another), and on the edge of leaving it all behind. A giant cliffhanger to Batman 3! How cool would this movie be??

Would be powerful to have these titles for 2 and 3:
Batman: Desperation
Batman: Threading the line

Also, going a bit further - it'd be incredible if they would introduce a brand new Catwoman that adheres as much to her comic character as possible, in Batman: Threading the line to focus on the issue of dual identities. While Batman contemplates giving up his alter ego, our favourite cat burglar keeps him busy on the streets, sparking some love interest to temporarily soothe Bruce's now breaking heart. As in the comics, she is sometimes good, sometimes bad and rarely in between - and all this while Harvey battles his multiple personality complex. In a way they are similar, and after Batman attempts to counsel Harvey into taking reign of his life, it is therapy unto himself and it answers his own questions. At the end we see that the Dark Knight is here to stay. Perfect ending to a perfect trilogy!

There are those who call me...Tim.
I say Mark Hamill. It's been proven that with a good director (Kershner for ESB) he can produce a good performance, and Chris Nolan is a good director.

Plus he's been playing the Joker's voice for years.

But I've always had a soft spot for on screen* has-beens (hence why I've become a Kevin Costner fan ).

*As in he's no longer a successful on screen actor, despite his success as a voice actor.

Paul Bettany is being hotly tipped as the new Joker. A darker more sadistic Joker, and will revolve more around his criminal involvements rather than being more like the cartoon.
In Nolan we trust!!!!
