2015 Academy Awards

We're 5 weeks from the nominees being announced and every contender (except Star Wars, if that is one) has been screened by critics and voters. Who and what do you think will make it in?

Can Alejandro G Inarritu pull off back-to-back best pictures or is his new film too gloomy, bloody, and po-faced for voters? Do voters no longer care how bloody and genre-infused Tarantino's movies are, he's guaranteed a spot or will Hateful Eight end his streak? Does Spotlight have just the right formula since everyone likes it and no one hates it, even though few seem to love it and technically it's perfunctory? Does Inside Out have the popularity and staying power to become the fourth animated film in history to secure a Best Picture nomination? With a late in the game hard push from critics and a few hundred million at the box-office, can Mad Max: Fury Road's spectacular vision and popular support earn it a spot in the race or is it just too weird for a bunch of senior citizens? Will The Martian be the first blockbuster to take the prize since Return of the King 12 years ago? Will Ridley Scott finally get an Oscar even if it's not? And as half the Internet seems to be asking, is this the year DiCaprio takes home a golden boy?

I'd love to see Stallone get nominated for Creed!

He'll be the one everybody will be talking about leading up to the ceremony. A win would be great, too!

Creed is a very high Oscar contender, though you never know.

I'm not old, you're just 12.
I'd say, that as good as it is, Mad Max Fury Road won't be nominated for as many categories as you seem to think, and definitely not Best Picture. It's just not Oscar bait.

Mad Max is not gonna get nominated for that many categories sorry to say. It was a good film (the Visuals are where it really shines), but it ain't no best picture contender.

Any of the contenders you listed besides Inside Out will probably be in its place. The Academy won't nominate an Animated film for Best Picture because they've copped out and made a "Best Animated Film" category when I personally think that is ******** and there shouldn't be an Animated movie category because a movie is a movie, no matter if it is made with computers and Voice Actors or cameras and sets.

What do you mean they won't nominate an animated film?

Both Toy Story 3 and Up got nominated for Best Picture (and Best Screenplay) just to name some.

It's that time of year again?
Where people talk about a bunch of movies I can't see.

It's no wonder so many download films illegally off the internet. If I did that at least I'd be part of the conversation.

The Screen Actors Guild announces their nominees in a couple hours. They can match up with the Oscars pretty well, especially when it comes to the winners (the SAG Awards will be revealed January 30th), but their twenty nominees never all line up exactly with the Oscar choices. Just in the past five years, out of those twenty acting categories only three times have all five nominees corresponded completely with SAG and the Academy: twice for Best Supporting Actor, and once for Best Supporting Actress. There are rarely more than one or two differences in each category, but there are usually differences. And their Best Cast award has historically not been a very reliable match for Best Picture, with titles such as American Hustle, The Help, and Inglourious Basterds winning the SAG in three of the past six years for non-matches with the Academy winners, and even with the Oscars expanding their Picture nominees to potentially as many as ten per year, the SAGs nominate films for Best Cast that do not even manage to get Best Picture nominations, including August: Osage County, Lee Daniel's The Butler, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Bridesmaids in the past five years.

These nominees won't knock out any of the perceived frontrunners, but they may give false hope to the three or four or six or however many it is going to be that do not get Oscar nominations on January 14th. But for what they are worth, we'll know this morning what made the SAG cut.

Vin Diesel posted a photo of an Oscar screener copy of Furious 7. Wuhuu, it could be awesome if it got a nomination! Its chances are probably in the visual (notable CG Paul Walker) and sound department (surprised non of the movies have had a nom in this category tbh)...

You do realize that there are THOUSANDS of movies that have Oscar screeners, yes? It's not just forty or fifty hopefuls with the most seeming chance at the high profile noms, it is essentially every movie that was released in 2015.

Yep, but still Furious 7 wil get that nom! Watch it happen!

Furious 7 will get a few nominations. Visual Effects, sound editing, and See You Again for best song. I think that this will be a huge year for giving awards (or at least nominations) to old people who haven't gotten as many accolades as they probably should have. I'm predicting Ridley Scott, Leo DiCaprio, George Miller, one of Michael Caine/Ian McKellan, and Sly Stallone to all get nominated, and the first two could win Oscars.

Survivor 5s #2 Bitch
Well the peculiar SAG noms have totally thrown my predictions off, only a few people (Blanchett, Mara, Fassbender, Winslet, Ronan, Depp and Dicaprio seem to be set) but every acting category is quite packed this year, so I reckon there'll be quite a few snubs and surprises. Just have to see how the Globes and BAFTA's respond now.

Furious 7 should easily pick up a song nomination too, it wouldn't surprise me if it won in that category either!

“Hell will hold no surprises for you.”
These are my predicted nominees. I put in bold who I think will win.
