That's a good question. I would think only one who works with director. Otherwise the editing style will be inconsistent. Not that this matters for television since no one cares.

Some directors like Kubrick and Rodriguez (I'm not too sure about others, but I could have a guess) do all the editing on their own.

It can range from 1 to 4 and it doesn't seem to depend on the size of the project as much as different editors preferences.

As Planet mentioned, a lot of directors edit their own features including Kubrick, James Cameron, Cohen Brothers and many more. Editing is a fantastic skill for a director to master especially with the increased workload applied to editors these days and the freedom it offers a more meticulous director, other directors chose not too, but form a unique artistic bond with an editor during post. (I personally intend to go from editing into directing, some day lol).

Television episodes can be very similar and just as random also lol. I once worked on a documentary set in the 30s with an editor (me), special effects editor who created animated maps and timelines, A grading specialist who achieved certain 'dated looks' a sound editor and a sound mixer. Some editors are capable of doing all 5 jobs themselves. It all depends on projects and skill levels.

But don't forget that Editors edit the film. It's the assistant editors that do all the frunt work. Syncing, transferring, labeling, etc.

Okay, so, I just watched this documentary sort of thing on all the type of work and all the teams it took to make Star Wars Episode III and I was just wondering if you make a movie not based on CG and things of the type, if you need THAT many people.

What's a good estimate of how many people it would take to do a low budget film?

Depends, for our productions we had two editors. The picture editor and then the assistant editor. That's not including the sound editors, dialogue editors, etc. That's the post sound team.



Generally speaking though it wouldn't make a difference. Star Wars III is the sort of production that would be crawling with visual effects artists, but not necessarily more editors though normally this is the case.

As Suspect mentioned about assistant's, they tend to be the expanded group on larger productions as there's more skivvey work to be done

It's been a very mild August. It usually gets really hot by California standards in August. But I'm not complaining. I don't like 90+ weather.



I certainly was not complaining.

So my week was busy, but also a ton of fun. After meeting my new agent and getting use to the time change. I met the other actress that my agent represents and she took me and Mom out to Spago for dinner. What a great time and great food. The rest of the week was meeting people and hanging out with her. I got a little taste of being a celeb when I got a limo ride from the hotel to Dodger Stadium to see the Dodgers lose to the Rockies 3-2. But we had sweet front row seats.
