Ralph Vaughan Williams. You cleverly put us off the track by showing him conducting. I kept thinking of someone like Sir Thomas Beecham (same era). Your hint put me on the right trail.

He was a very prolific composer, but --like Hindemith-- he never got the popularity of some of the Russians, Europeans or even a few Americans.
