He was born in Scotland. He fronted a famous Brit rock band from 1968 to the present. He is not normally associated with the instrument he's playing in the picture.

Benjamin Britten?

Born about 40 years before Britten. My favorite composer. Not that that helps.

Only other Brit composer I know of is Elgar.

Ralph Vaughan Williams. You cleverly put us off the track by showing him conducting. I kept thinking of someone like Sir Thomas Beecham (same era). Your hint put me on the right trail.

He was a very prolific composer, but --like Hindemith-- he never got the popularity of some of the Russians, Europeans or even a few Americans.
