Original Plotlines

This is the thing that winds me up the most when people criticise the film. It's like people can only see the reverse structure and nothing beyond that. The film has a HELL of a lot more going for it than just the backwards narrative. What about the tragic nature of the story? The interesting, complex main characters?? The simple yet extremely effective use of sound & music? Guy Pearce's tour de force?? It's not just 'the film that goes backwards' it's a flipping masterpiece. I've seen the fillm roughly about 15 times now and it's got as much substance as it has style.

It was driving me crazy, but in the back of my head I kept thinking wasn't there a movie before Momento with the same idea, a guy wakes up each day and doesn't know who he is, but he leaves stuff to tell him? Not a very good movie because I barely remembered it, but I finally remembered the star and found it. And I think it disqualifies Momento as having an original plot. Original presentation, okay, but not plot.

What film would this be? Leonard remembers who is he is (or was, rather he just can't make new memories.

It was this. Not very memorable. I saw the whole movie and looking at the trailer I don't remember any of it except the basic idea. It gave me amnesia.

Similar premise, but execution is far more original. HK is right though, nothing is purely original.
