Welcome to the human race...
The Shining -

the fact that this is the first time I've watched this since seeing both Room 237 and Ready Player One and it still holds up despite those two is testament enough to its quality

Winchester (2018)

I knew the ratings and reviews were considerably opposed to this movie, but the reality based setting drew me in to watch it. I thought the acting and environments were done well enough to make you understand what the true intentions of this lady might have been back in the day, but that's about it. It didn't feel all that scary. It was just an interesting movie to watch, with only a few parts feeling like they were filler and unimportant.

We bought a zoo (2011)

A wistful film that's nonetheless enjoyable. Good watching for us on a Sunday and I thought all the actors did well with a pretty creaky script. I didn't expect too much out of it and was warmly suprised 7/10
Yeah, this one was a very pleasant surprise.

Double Harness (John Cromwell, 1933)

Ironically fails to restrain itself from 'preaching'

Heavenly Creatures (1994)

''I’m going to The Fourth World… It’s sort of like heaven. Only better, because there aren’t any Christians!''

Terrific movie. Jamie Fox killed in his rôle. Tom Cruise excellent, as per usual.

Leviathan (2014)

Dour tale about a Russian about a man on the edge battling against local authorities who have decided to take his land from him due to Russian bylaws. Its meandering and the story about his wife and kid seems a bit tacked on for additional "drama". Worth a watch but only the once 5/10.

Interesting. Maybe not as much as the 1st one, but, 10 years later, worth watching. Narrated again by Morgan Freeman (!).

The Awful Truth (1937)

Entertaining screwball comedy. The dialogue is smart & snappy but I think it fizzles in the last third.

Giallo A Venezia (1979)

Not good, but it is good if you're just looking for something nasty and sleazy. It's always a plus to see Venice and this movie features both male and female crotchial stabbings.

Pretty sure 'stabbing' is already in there

The Incredible Hulk. Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) is on the run, not just trying to control the beast within but also to stop a corrupt General (William Hurt) getting his hands on the formula that could create other Hulks for military use. Never seen this 2008 version of the story before, but it's pretty good (as is Norton) and surprisingly enjoyable. There are some nice nods to the tv series too, in dialogue, music and a TV clip from Bill Bixby in a different show.

Both male and female crotchial stabbings? Two for the prize of one!

(Seriously though, gross)

That's a girl
Lol I was serious. I actually asked a director this once and he said yes, he was working through his issues with his mother. I also was having a chat one day about this very thing to someone I've known my whole life and she said the only reason she still gives herself a brazilianis the imagery of ripping her bastard ex husband away from that area. OK I shouldn't have used that term in retrospect. Thanks for teaching me this morning's lesson, cricket. I'm still working through my own mommy and daddy issues so my question is a combo between that and a post in another thread over the weekend. I momentarily forgot the negativity surrounding that term. My error completely.

So has the director ever said he is working his way through anything in particular in his art? That's the way I should have asked to start with. In my own defence, if a female director had genital mutilation in her movies I would ask the same question - does she have daddy issues.
