The Matrix is over rated!!!

Tools

I think the Matrix is a little over rated its not a bad movie its actually a really good movie but its not one of the greatest movies ever or even of the 90s not even the best of 1999 but it is in the top 15 of that year....to see where I ranked it in 1999 check the link below....do you agree that it is a bit over rated or do you think it is one of the best of the 90s.....how do you feel about where I ranked it in 1999s films here is the link...Enjoy!!!

Kobayashi's boss doesn't scare me.

I enjoyed the Matrix more than the Hurricane. Probably a big factor in that is the fact that I think the guy was guilty, regardless of what the movie claimed.

Personally, I would sandwich The Matrix between American Beauty (my #1 of the year) and Being john Malkovich (my #3). I just rewatched it last night and found that it held up extremely well after 14 years.

Finished here. It's been fun.
Ummm I think The Matrix is a pretty good film. It's an excellent action sci-fi flick, with some ambitious philosophical themes thrown in. It's not the best film of 99' though. American Beauty is the superior film.

I'mma gonna take a serious dump on this thread. Like, for realz.

It doesn't matter, nobody's mentioned the best film of 1999, a fairly weak year though.
and which film might that be ?

I agree 1999 is no 1994

I'd choose between Beau Travail and The Wind Will Carry Us.

1994 gave one of cinema's greatest masterworks in Satantango, and one of its most delightfully vibrant ones too in Chungking Express

Gangster Rap is Shakespeare for the Future
From what i have seen

Beau Travail by Claire Denis
The Straight Story by David Lynch
The Wind Will Carry Us by Abbas Kiarostami

are the top tier films of 1999
Now my comment seems redundant

Heh

I still havent seen Satantango even though i have it on dvd

But i agree on Chungking Express but one shouldnt forget Through the Olive Trees. The last part of Kiarostamis Koker village trilogy!

I'm waiting until I can see Where is the Friend's Home? before I watch the other two that I have access to, not sure when that'll be though...

The Matrix is certainly better than Beau Travail.

It's one of the best science fiction movies I ever watched, though I was 10 when I watched it at the theater and if I had watched it now my impression might be different. Anyway, it remains a great memory.

Well, according to the critical consensus in the last Sign and Sound poll, the best movie of 1999 was Beau Travail, the best movie of the 1990's was Satantango.

While The Matrix is actually rated pretty highly in that poll, it's ranked as one of the top 15 best movies of the decade and the second in 1999 after Beau Travail, the third film of 1999 would be Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut.

It's the best science fiction film of the 1990's according to the critical consensus. So you are rightly told by the specialists to love The Matrix enough to rate it as one of your favorite 1999 films.

I don't think I have viewed a film from 1999 that I liked more than The Matrix. Though, what are the other good ones? Eyes Wide Shut, I think is great also. American Beauty is good but not great and Magnolia is excellent though.

The Ghibli film of 1999, My Neighbor the Yamadas, is very weak by the studio's standards and one of Takahata's weakest films. So that leaves out the strong competition.

Thanks, I can tell all of my friends that now!
