Any scene in any Ozu film instantly sums up that film and any other Ozu film ever.
One scene that sums up a movie?

A scene that has always stuck in my mind is Bob Hoskins in the shower in "The Long Good Friday" - it sums up the theme of the movie - a mobster under overwhelming pressure, outmaneuvered, losing no matter what he does, showing his vulnerability, but still refusing to give in, and contemplating his next move. A masterpiece of a movie!
I don't think that scene sums up the film, but I do think it illistrates exactly what you described and it is an excellent film. As I've said many times on this site, best British gangster film ever.

In the Equilibrium they state exactly what the movie is about with out saying what will happen, its the perfect synopsis.

The scene were Martin Sheen appears drunk in his bedroom (he was actually drunk) in Apocalypse Now sums up the entire movie for me.
