There are different endings for the The Shining's movie and the book.
In the movie, Jack dies chasing after his son Danny in the maze and freezes to death.
In the book, the boiler of the hotel explodes and he dies because he remains in the hotel as his wife, Wendy, and son, Danny, escape.
