Oh, I definitely agree with both of the 2 above posts, and I DID see in Signs the self-discovery. It is by no means trite, and that is not at all the impression that I intended to convey, Sedai. In fact, I felt touched by Signs in a personal way, in spite of the fact that a lot of my friends remain unimpressed. 
I think that while I agree that life is about discovery, I am at a point where I need to see that the ultimate discovery is worth something after all. Purpose directed, and all that jive.
If the POINT is that there IS a point, then dont you agree that we should get to the business of serving our purpose??
In Unbreakable, he found out the Big Secret---ok, I can dig it. But to me, that is a SURFACE issue, and is only the tip of the iceberg. The answer to one question begets several other questions.
Discovery is the BEGINNING, not the end. To me, the discovery expressed by Signs was complete in that he discovered that he was what he wanted to be--that what he believed was right.
Signs = disillusioned priest rediscovers faith.
Unbreakable = unknowing guy discovers he is unbreakable.
Signs signaled the END of a journey of self-discovery; Unbreakable signaled the beginning.
