Robert Rodriguez's
Once Upon A Time in Mexico is currently scheduled for a September 2003 release in the U.S.
Described by Rodriguez as the
Good, the Bad & the Ugly of the trilogy, the plot is more Mariachi, but with a bigger context (and budget): a drug lord with a massive empire attempting to assassinate the President of Mexico, a corrupt CIA agent in his allegiance, a crusading FBI agent with a score to settle, and lots and lots of gunplay. Plus those cool guys with their guitar cases full of death.
Baderas is the lead Marachi, and Salma Hayek is back as a love interest. Depp is the corrupt CIA agent, Ruben Blades is the retired FBI agent trying to take him down, and Willem Dafoe is the drug kingpin. Enrique Iglasias is another Mariachi, Mickey Rourke is along for the ride too, along with Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin and the usual suspects.
Could be loads of fun. I just hope like Hell he's actually written an ending this time.
Desperado has to be one of the laziest cop-out borefest screw-yous of an ending, while the first two-thirds of that flick was full of terrific stuff. We'll know in September.
