B-Movie HoF II: The Sequel!

I see my nomination is popular.
I'm going to hook it up with your nom. I still love it regardless of my issues with it. I'll shine some light on it if I can. I have it running right now on the Sony blu ray, pumping through my Onkyo 7.1.

The Burning has a little bit of all of these things, but not too much of anything at the same time. It's an adequate cash in on the original campfire premise of Cunningham's Friday the 13th. It's edited by Jack Sholder, who would later go on to make the best Nightmare on Elm St entry (part II), as well as the magnificent 80's crime thriller sci fi The Hidden.
Sorry for the double post, but this is interesting to me. Joel, why do you like/think Nightmare 2 is the best one? I think you're completely correct regarding The Hidden, which is fantastic and something I was thinking of nominating had I joined.

I think it's the best entry because it gets everything right. True that it is an unintentional (?) homoerotic script (sure it is), and there are some really dumb plot holes, not to mention the manifestation of Krueger into the material world (the "killer" party scene), but aside from the usual b movie pitfalls - the film was shot nice and dark, The dead molester's dialog wasn't over the top comedy and that helped make Freddy much more menacing. The atmosphere was very dirty and dank. Lots of browns and deep reds. Sholder made sure to incorporate his unique visual style. It was just a truly sinister entry into the franchise, and because it was early on, it cemented itself for me. It didn't go complete "pop" like the splendid premise of Dream Warriors did (love the idea but the sequences and stupid humor made it almost unbearable to watch as an adult).

This is a true film. It looks like film (as it should), it's always been presented where the projector bulb looks run down, giving off a dim rendering of the cut together segments...I dunno. It's just all there.

Part 1 was great for the music score alone..and had a similar dark look to it stylistically, which is so cool...but something about part 2 grabbed me more.

I should add that Dream Warriors was also shot very dark, which made the hospital marionette suicide scene so disturbing..all three of the trilogy were dark and dirty. But part 2 had something cool about it. It was a re-imagining. Sure it was corny and silly and had a flattened look to it, as well. But some of the sequences were very hypnotic. The school bus and lightning. The desolate industrial park. The school shower. The make-out scene with carpet rolled tongue.

I mean, LOOK AT THIS!

Major spoilers

I hadn't seen this film before last night. I nominated it because when I was still in single digits, I saw the trailer for this and was fascinated by it. When I saw this HoF I thought of the film and said *GASP* That's the perfect film to nominate!

And I don't regret it a single bit.

I absolutely love the snowman design. You may say it looks terrible, but I love it. The fact that it look more like plastic than snow, the fact that he moves in the film about as much as an actual snowman. His screechy voice. His goofy smile and angry eyebrows. It's beautiful.

I fail to see why this has a 4 on IMDB. It may be awful but I find it absolutely impossible to hate. I cant give much of a review, I just have to list all the things I found amazing.

-That completely out of place opening.
-The town is called "Snowmonton".
-Scott MacDonald looks and acts like a porno actor.
-There's a weird bicycle-pump noise whenever they do a flashback.
-The fact that the CGI blood cells scene looked pretty good for this type of film.
-The kid's oats look like mini-marshmallows mixed in dog s*it.
-'Snowballs'
-Stephen King bullies.
-Final Destination looking-ass death.
-I only 'axed' you for a smoke.
-The sound effect for Jack emerging is the Bull-squid sound effect from Half Life.
-Utterly inappropriate music during the strangling scene.
-During the strangling scene the camera zooms in on Jacks face like he's in a cartoon/porno and he's going 'hubba hubba'. You can't make this up people.
-The one cop who keeps on making creepy jokes about the corpses.
-"This watery footprint has the same DNA print as a fingerprint"
-Too many stock sound effects.
"Turn on the lights" "But I'll get scared in the dark"
-Well it ain't f*cking Frosty!
-She dries her hair BEFORE taking a bath!
-'Christmas came early this year'
-Just awful stock music throughout the whole film.
-The policeman shoots the water!
-LOOK MA! I'M A PICASSO! HAHA!
-'Fastest blow-dryer in the west'
-HE PUT ANTI-FREEZE IN THE OATS BECAUSE HE 'DIDN'T WANT HIM TO GET COLD!
-They bury him in the ground instead of quarantining him.

I'm still smiling writing this review, I'm so glad this film exists.

I liked this, what a fun movie! This is my idea of a fun horror to watch on Halloween. It was witty with some great one liners, that made me laugh. I loved the way the dialogue was flippant and had a cool vibe to it.

Right at the start I loved the opening title credits, and I could tell the film had oodles of style. Then boom...right into a crazy space battle with some odd looking aliens...and they were naked! ha...Then we're plucked down in 1959 with all those cool cars and B&W film too, I loved this opening sequences.

It had good production values, everything looked pretty damn good. And for 'no name actors' the cast was actually good and likable.

It had a lot of different story components which shows the writer wanted to be creative and not just churn out a product. I mean we get all these different story elements besides the zombies. Besides the two teen boys who could have been in Weird Science, we get a tough as nails cop, who's haunted by his past and is a bit of a bad ass to boot.

I noticed when the older lady was watching TV, an old Ed Wood movie was playing, I think it was Glen or Glenda, then it cut to Plan Nine From Outer Space...Oh, if all that wasn't cool enough there's Dick Miller from Roger Corman B horror movie fame. He's the cop in the weapons cage that hands over the flame thrower. Then there's 'Corman University'. Lots of neat stuff for a movie buff to love here.

But besides all that, the story worked for me I was engaged and I had fun watching it!

@TheUsualSuspect somebody did like your movie!

@Joel

No love for my movie yet?!?!?!?!
I'm about a quarter of the way through it. Proving to be a little difficult because of the murky youtube quality. I might check and see if there's a decent transfer on dvd or blu ray for cheap. I also have to be in the right mood for this one, I can tell. I promise I'll get er' dun!
