I gave it a
actually, and I feel like it could be higher in the future. The more I think about it, the more I think it was great

Ah, my bad. It's been growing on me the more I think about it, and I do think it's an interesting film. But I can't help if I wasn't completely satisfied, now can I?

Trouble with a capitial 'T'
Swan, sorry to hear about your grandmother.

I just seen you mention White Zombie. Yah! Finally a film I've seen and loved. Bela gets no respect and maybe he wasn't a great actor but he was so darn good in that type of role. I bet you never seen him in Chandu the Magician (1932) He's diabolically evil in that one.

Nah. I feel the same. I thought I'd be blown away but I wasn't. It was decent but not great.

Thanks (you and samoan).

Lugosi was a great actor, based on what I've seen. Classic Dracula. I'll have to check out that one you mentioned.

Glad I'm not alone.

Btw, Swan, if I wanted to initiate myself on slasher movies, which one would u recommend I watch first?
Definitely Halloween. The classic and ultimate slasher film.

Dark Star (John Carpenter, 1974) -

Pretty damn good for a USC student film. I would describe this movie as an extremely low-budget version of 2001: A Space Odyssey by way of Dr. Strangelove, but not as funny. Pretty sure Carpenter and O'Bannon both know it's not very funny looking back, though. It's part of the charm. I love movies like this. Low budget movies with practical effects. They inspire me.

This is how you make a movie! A perfect combination of technic and emotion, directing and story, action and suspense!
The acting is incredible from everyone involved, especially Nakadai who offers an exceptional range of emotions.
The directing and editing are impressive, I felt I was attending to a film course, and every detail is treated with such perfection... Even the passing of time reflected on the shadows positioning was used as a suspense element!
And the end is incredible, specially because it was so well constructed! The ultimate revenge movie!

The Sacrament (Ti West, 2013) -

I'm kind of all over the place with this one. It has some very good things about it. Suspenseful moments, a good performance by Gene Jones... and, well, that might be it. The rest of the acting wasn't that great, which is disappointing because I like a lot of these actors, as I've seen them in other things and thought they were pretty good and likable in those. Here, they were just okay. Also didn't like the use of music in a found footage movie. Ti West has definitely done better, and can do better, than this.
That's disappointing to hear. I'm not a big fan of found-footage films, but I've heard mostly good things about The Sacrament and I think Ti West and Eli Roth are two of the most exciting voices in the genre, so I was really looking forward to this.

Another movie commented with MG and a very good experience!
It's a german supernatural thriller starring Mads Mikkelsen (who else? ) who deliver a great performance. The atmosphere is well built through the movie aswell as the suspense, even if it's a relatively slow paced thriller!
There's some philosohical elements that are used on the right amount and I liked especially the contrast between the dark world and the light world! The final scene is also incredibly powerful! I said this once and I repeat it: german cinema has a innocence and a sincerity that Hollywood lost a long time ago. That is what makes it so special!

First of all, Charles Laughton's perfomance has to be one of the best perfomances in the history of cinema! It's simply perfect!
The movie has everything on the right amount: humour, suspense, clever dialogues and a great ending, especially if considering that it was released in the late 50s (the formula was repeated a lot of times since then). Everything was carefully planned and the script just gains tension until it explodes in a magnificent way!
However, this has more than a good twist! The dialogues are superbly written and the characters are really interesting, specially Sir Wilfrid and his relationship with the nurse! And that it's what it makes this rewatch material!

P.S. I loved the anti-spoiling warning at the end!

Red Eye (Wes Craven, 2005) -

[REWATCH]

This movie has such a faulty premise that it really shouldn't work. There are so many ways she could have gotten herself out of the situation, including the fact that the people around her should have been able to hear and see what was going on! What the hell were the people seated behind, in front, or next to them, doing the whole time?

Despite that... it does work. And it's a sh*tload of fun. I saw this once before a few years ago and liked it well enough, but wasn't too blown away. This time, however, I really enjoyed myself (had good company watching it with me as well). It's script isn't great, but it really works by being short and taut, being suspenseful and keeping you at the edge of your seat, and having two great leads characters. Cillian Murphy freaking owns this movie.

Are they all very good experiences so far!?!?!?!?!

starring Mads Mikkelsen (who else? ) who deliver a great performance.
What made you doubt that he doesn't give great performances?? You need to watch more Mads Mikkelsen films... I should express that more with members of the forum who enjoy diversity!!

Neiba, to me, the two best Charles Laughton films are "Island of Lost Souls" (1932) and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1939)...
