Agreed, I found Bilbo to be pushed to the background in favour of the Dwarves quest - and it turns out 99% of the dwarves were also pushed to the background. Character development in this trilogy...

The pregnancy angle would worry me more - that part dragged the movie down slightly as that baby would be screaming - mattress dulling the sound or not...
