And the chemistry between Amy Poehler and Tina Fey really make this movie work.

And I loved having James Brolin and Dianne Wiest, who play the parents on the CBS sitcom Life in Pieces, playing Tina and Amy's parents, but this movie coasts on Tina and Amy's rep rather than on its own merit.
