HALL OF FAME!!

Hello, grab a bean bag, turn on a lava lamp and spend some time in the "Me" Generation. Where personal attire were, a bit courageous, to say the least, grindhouse and exploitation films were king, and doing copious amounts of cocaine was actually smiled upon.

The rules of Hall of Fame are pretty much the same as others before:
You nominate a movie, PM said movie to the Host, said me,
I post all the nominations, everyone involved watches all the movies, write up a review for each movie and once done, make a list (favorite to least favorite), PM said list to said Host and at the end: big reveal, game show antics and prizes by made up sponsors (which, no one actually really gets anyways)

And yes, if you join, please finish.
If you do join and don't finish, I won't hunt you down, murder you and make some sort of southern delicacy out of you, wear you skin for a mask and jiggle my belly while waving a chainsaw in the air.
BUT one, or more of the others here might - just for the fun of it. While the rest of us cheer them on.
Just saying.

I haven't posted mentions right away, but depending on how things go, I might.

There's no specific deadline for when nominations need to be in, it may be a week from today, may be sooner, depending on how much time is necessary for everyone who joins in.

And, yes, we will do the "Guess Who Nominated What" game before posting them.

I am considering doing 1 week per player for the final deadline and will post the final decision/date here for everyone.

Oh, I know, I have three ready to go. Pretty well known, I think, and I'm going to wait till everyone else sends theirs in and see what may be left and make a choice - unless of course I stumble upon something and go that route. . .

Join Joel!.....You've been a great new member in the 14th Hof, and we need people like you to be enthusiastic about movies and be willing to discuss them, you're a natural at this!

You'll like this Hof too:), it has a different 'feel' than the 14th Hof, more laid back and probably will have less people. All of the genre/decades Hofs I've been in have had really good movies too. I enjoy these Hofs much more than the main one.

Great thread! Matt join! everything I just said to Joel applies to you too. I know you are passionate about the 1970s, so here's your chance. But if you don't join, please hang out and discuss the movies with us:)

Is the objective to nominate lesser known films?

Is the objective to nominate lesser known films? It's fun, also it's work. If you join you get to nominate a film, but...you have to watch all of the other films that get nominated and then write about them.

The goal is to nominate a movie that you fully believe is great. It's not abut lesser known films, but one could be nominated if you thought it was worthy of being in a Movie Hall of Fame....think of the Sports or Music Hall of Fames.

"A Woman Under The Influence" wasn't my first Cassavetes, but I discovered it on a 70's favorite list... I still don't know recommended it, but I'll always be thankful... There's never been a movie even close to this in terms of originality and quality..

<just got chills thinking of how great Gena Rowlands was... a top 5 performance ever>

Husbands was my first Cassavetes. No, wait a minute. No, Gloria was my first one, then I worked backwards, ..that's right.

Yeah, Gena Rowlands is a force of nature! I love her!

I have a question.. Since we only send one nomination, what happens if we select the same movie?

Who in here has seen "A Woman Under The Influence"? for example... I'll try to look at everyone's "Lists" to see what they have already seen, it would be a shame to waste a nomination on a movie everyone has seen, considering the 70s are my favorite decade for movies (and music)

Personally I just pick what movie I love, or believe in...and if everyone has seen it, big deal...it just means they have less movies to watch.

I think the problem lately in the main Hof is people try too hard to pick obscure movies, then half of the people end up hating the noms.

SO VERY HAPPY you're in, cricket!!! A 70's HoF without you just wouldn't be right.

And to answer your question, matt72582, if someone PMs me their nom and someone already has it, I'll let that person know they need to pick another. Also, we do a little pre-game of trying to guess who nominated what before actually getting into gear. I'll post a list without saying who nominated what and for the fun of it, everyone who cares to, takes a stab at which nom belongs to who. Then, of course, I'll post the names to the movies which will be found on the front page along with a list of links to reviews as they come in.

and, oh my god, rauldc14, pick a d@mn movie already LOL

Me and Sean just did John Cassavetes for the Director of the Month. First time i watched A Woman Under The Influence (for the first Hall of Fame i joined here actually) i didn't like it much, but yeah on rewatch it was incredible; Rowlands performance has to be the best portrayal of mental illness. I actually preferred Love Streams of the four we watched though.

I also found Faces a little difficult.. Shadows is a bit better, but I like where he's trying to go.. I want to see these again.

No one talks about the two movies he made in the studio system that I think are great - A Child Is Waiting, Too Late Blues

"Minnie and Moskowitz" was one of those gritty 70's naturalistic movies without the cliches. This was the 1st movie of Cassavetes, and during the first half (12 years ago) I was so frustrated, but by the end, it all came together.

"Opening Night" is very tough, because it's a play within a play within a play. "Love Streams" is also one I like... Actually the only one I couldn't stand was Killing of a Chinese Bookie.

It was just really unpleasant to watch and listen to. The sound and visuals were really unpleasant to me. It also had a very disjointed structure which wouldn't have been a problem if it wasn't that intrusive visually and audibly, i found the story very hard to concentrate on due to this and i think Sean fell asleep  It is acclaimed though, particularly for its place in American Independent Film history; it was his first. Not for me though.

Here's what me and Sean posted, neither of us posted spoilers or said very much since we had such an awful time with it :

There is one I DID watch and enjoy: Gloria. Saw it as a rental from Blockbuster back in the mid to late 80's. Rowlands was great in that one from what I can remember.

Not sure if I've ever tried A Woman Under the Influence, and I know I haven't seen Opening Night (which, reading it looks rather intense) or Love Streams.

Pretty sure Husbands and Faces are the two others that are like Shadows so it's not surprising you didn't like them.

A Woman Under The Influence actually has a really straightforward story. Opening Night and Love Streams are deliberately all over the place, but A Woman Under The Influence is basically a linear drama film about a woman (Gena Rowlands) with a severe mental illness; with Peter Falk as her husband. I've only seen 4/12 of Cassavetes films so i can't say overall but out of those at least i'd say that would be the easiest to get into.

Isn't it odd they never made a movie together, as a couple? I liked how someone who isn't well herself could have helped, albeit in a strange way, but it wasn't the most convincing, aybe it's because I knew they were married, and at first glance, I think even a rookie would smile, but THAT doesn't matter... I actually liked the father-son scenario most.

I knew they were married too (i only watched Love Streams last night) and i think it was incredible how well they pulled off a sibling relationship considering their actual relationship. The father-son one was odd to me, i dunno can't be bothered going into it. Thought Cassavetes was amazing in the father-son scenes though.

I watched Husbands first and thought it was equally fascinating and misogynistic. But I'd watch it again out of curiosity.

A Woman Under the Influence was funny and disturbing. I think I laughed because of Peter Falk. His voice when he gets animated has that effect on me.

I couldn't get through Shadows or Faces.

The Killing of a Chinese Bookie I found dull and messy. I love Ben Gazzara but this wasn't his movie for me. I struggled bad with this one.

Opening Night..there's one that Birdman probably ripped off a little bit. I did like it, but may have to see it again at some point.

Gloria was my first Cassavetes film. I liked it. It was actually really awesome and Gena Rownlands as the action hero was so unique because she wasn't all bombastic. She had a subtle way of kicking ass. Like a very realistic way. She really is the best there was.

I need to see Love Streams. That was has me curious because it's PG-13 and a Cannon film. I guess the Golan/Globus Bros gave Cassavetes carte blanche.

Minny and Moskowitz I wasn't a fan of. Too grimy for me. It was semi interesting but it wasn't my thing, really.

And though not a Cassavetes film, I really liked Mikey and Nicky. I thought it was funny. Loved the diner scene with Falk.

I think i was constantly disturbed throughout A Woman Under The Influence, because in the first three minutes you see Rowlands she gets raped and has no idea what's going on in the morning. The only scenes that aren't disturbing to me in the film are the ones with Peter Falk and the kids, and one of them even has underage drinking

That's my only actual criticism of the film. It's not even a criticism actually more a want, i would have liked more scenes with Falk and the kids or Falk coping on his own those were amazing; think they brought Rowlands back too soon.

I'm glad you noticed Birdman. I agree 100% on Chinese Bookie -- too muddled. Gloria is one of his more commercial movies, only because he wanted to sell it, but ended up doing it himself.

I think Falk is the crazy one, but I don't think J.C. wanted to tell the audience what to feel and maybe wanted to see how people would respond. There are a few scenes where it's just by luck, chance, where she is considered crazy.. The first thing we hear from Falk is that he thinks Mabel is mad at him for not spending any time, and even when he makes a date to make up for this, he doesn't show up, she sits up all night, and etc.., but she wanted it to work, even going to her mother for a babysitter, not even sure if she should have..

Falk comes home and the first thing he says is "Cook me and these 10-15 guys I work with food" and "SIT YOUR ASS".. Notice how Falk ends that, telling Mabel she did nothing wrong, so she's probably a very self-conscious (e.g. what she says to herself) by leaving everything because his mother was seeking sympathy for a tummy ache.

The party... When they come back, they see the little girl running naked, and when grandma asks, the little girl seems afraid and doesn't answer.. Of course grandma suggests "Was it mommy?" - when that wasn't true.. She simply told the kids to wear their costumes.. And then lies the "crazy" -- she dances.. So what! That was another time Falk punches her out (before threatening to kill the kids) because the swan dance probably helps her anxieties... She asks him a few times if she loves him, and he says nothing.. During a moment of quiet, you hear Mabel basically say how she got pregnant (shot-gun wedding, regrets?)... Falk seems to side with his mother on everything, and instead of the mother taking the blame for not raising her kid right, it's typical she would blame Mabel for ALL the woes... "My husband doesn't do anything, he's a good boy" (when the psychiatrist shows up, who only makes things worse by being the typical smarmy elitist)..

I didn't even mention the beach.. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice it was too cold, yet Falk was wearing shorts in that freezing weather, and seems so disjointed, and needs to seek approval from co-workers, and his overbearing mother.

A sign of the times... Mabel goes to pick up the kids, and she needs to know what time it is. She asks a few women walking by and they totally ignore her, and she's frustrated by their lack of empathy, at one point yelling "You have a watch on!".. But it's all good, she was on time, etc... I'm not saying she was perfect, but I don't think she was abnormal, and her anxieties were caused by others.. And for Falk to throw a huge party the minute she comes out of the mental institution, which obviously doesn't help.. She tells the guests she wants to be alone, and everyone else wants to tell her what she can or cannot handle.. Even Falk says "She shouldn't see the kids" until his mother actually changes, and appears the only responsible person, and perhaps some guilt we don't know about for Mabel -- why else would she change course all of a sudden? Because she got what she wanted, screaming that she needs to be put away..

At the end, he does scream "I love you so who cares" and the proverbial band-aid as they get ready for bed..

"Husbands" is one that doesn't seem to be watched much. It's somewhere in the middle for me, but I wish some would watch the two movies he made in the studio, which are very structured... Too Late Blues was the first, with Bobby Darin, and it's probably the best movie that describes music and the business, the lines between making a career out of it without selling out... A Child Is Waiting has Burt Lancaster, Judy Garland, Gena Rowlands, etc, but Judy steals the show.. I think it was her best role, and she was in the condition to play it with so much vulnerability without being corny.

If anyone is interested, here is the 544-paged "Cassavetes on Cassavetes" by Ray Carney, who really loves American independent movies and really knows his stuff.

http://www.thestickingplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Cass-on-Cass.pdf

So I don't forget, John Cassavetes' mother is probably the funniest person in movies, although he has a wicked sense of humor, the smile, the eyes.. Hilarious in The Dirty Dozen -- "I never ate that.. Stepped in it a few times, never ate it"....

And I love "Mikey and Nicky" and movies like that. Real-time, no act 1, 2, and 3 (not that there's anything wrong with that) but it's nice to have options and not be encumbered by convention.

Also, I do know there is a lot of great things going on elsewhere on this forum, never mind the insanity of normal life; so, no pressure if you're going with a pass. A simple "middle finger" in the thread or per PM will do quite nicely ;)

I've been thinking about this since you mentioned wanting to host it, and still haven't made up my mind. I know, I'm a terribly indecisive person. There are so many great films from the 70s, and I'm really interested to see what everyone has nominated.

Survivor is nearing the end, and I only have 2 films left for the 14th HoF, but I'm not sure if I want to commit to anything right now. This past month has been exhausting, with a lot of stuff going on here and in my life. I think I need some time to just watch things at my own pace, and by my own choosing. I do have a ton of horror films I want to watch this month, in addition to 2 games I'm very excited for.

Even if I don't join, I'll probably loiter around here anyway though haha.

If you simply loiter, I would love that and I completely understand how exhausting Survivor can be and, even more so, life in general; and an occasional break from HoFs can be necessary.
Have you had a chance to check out the October Horror Challenge (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=1781002#post1781002) that camo is hosting? A little loitering or possibly venturing in there may be a wonderful Horror movie hook up. He has a great set up list of choosing your own movies.

So, PLEASE, my dear, DO NOT feel pressured to join if you need a break; so relax, enjoy your working fridge, and loiter at your leisure if that's what you decide. :)

Man i love this. I'm going to start saying this to family and friends as a term of endearment.

And yeah if you're watching horrors this month join us in that thread if you want Cosmic. You don't have to actually take part in the challenge or try and fit films into the categories or whatever, it's for all Horror discussion some of us are just doing that so it's not a generic horror thread.

Nestorio sent his nom in, so I'll be doing the REVEAL later tonight with the updates for the front page. I'll put mentions to let everyone know as well so we can do "Guess Who Nominated What" before I post who DID nominate what and we'll get this sucka goin.

I'll also post the Deadline here and on the front page, which, after calculating a movie a week per player actually puts it a week after the new year and, since we'll be running through the holidays and all that occurs here, and in our lives, I'm adding an extra week and I'm sure we'll all need the full amount of time. And of course, like everything, that date will be tentative and I will extend should it be necessary.

Deadline: January 12, 2018

Quite the incredible wide range of genre/films for the decade including 2 foreign films. So its definitely quite the smorgasbord.

Three Days of the Condor...I've never seen this but have long wanted to!

Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion...no idea.

Dog Day Afternoon...I've also never seen this but have long wanted to!

The Last Picture Show...I seen this recently but will rewatch it, as I liked it, but I think another watch will kick it up a notch.

What's Up, Doc?...Haven't seen this since I was a kid, looking forward to it.

Red Psalm...no idea.

Halloween...Good fun for October, I haven't seen it in years.

Sorceror...A complete mystery to me, but I'm intrigued.

F for Fake...Orson Welles, who is that???

Kramer Vs. Kramer...It's been a long time, great film.

Harry and Tonto...I seen this fairly recently but I think I'll rewatch it and see if my appreciation will grow.

The Sting...It's been a long time, great film.

The Warriors...It's been a long time, great film.

Eraserhead

I'll be honest. I've never been a huge fan of Halloween. I think Carpenter was a better filmmaker than that regardless of the supposed mark it made in history or whatever. I don't even agree it was a first for POV or slasher, etc. Black Christmas is an obvious forerunner.

It was just OK in my opinion.
Carpenter did much superior work a couple years prior with Assault on Precinct 13.

Seen:

Dog Day Afternoon - great film, I really enjoyed this tale of a couple of really hapless bank robbers. One of those films that just hooks you right from the start.

The Warriors - Really like this one as well, looks great.

The Sting. - It's been a while since I saw this but I remember not being as impressed with it as I'd hoped after reading great things. It might be worth giving it another watch.

The Last Picture Show - Saw this around the time we did the 70s countdown. It's a pretty bleak film!

F is for Fake - I think this was in another hall of fame some time. I wasn't mad keen on it.

Kramer vs. Kramer - My mum likes this film but I don't like it all that much. I'm not sure it's dated well.

Halloween - Not keen. Horror isn't really my favourite genre, and slasher films are not one of the subgenres of horror I do like. I just really didn't see what was special about it at all.

Eraserhead - Honestly quite a chore to sit through.

(Not overwhelmingly positive responses, sorry nominators!)

The only movies I didn't see were "Red Psalm", "The Warriors", "Sorcerer".... I saw the first 20 minutes of "Citizen..." (I like Petri and Volonte) wasn't that into it, and needed the space...

I actually have had "Eraserhead" on VHS since I was 18, and yes, it was a chore to watch, but I was a new film fan, and wanted to explore EVERYTHING.... There are some on that list I haven't saw in years, so it'll be nice to re-visit, as I've notice a few of my opinions changing, both ways.

I f@ckin LOVE that!! :rotfl:
Always loved They Live never have I heard so many corny lines spoken so hilariously.
And if we talk Carpenter we HAVE to mention The Thing, which, for me, was his very best. Of course, for sheer fun, They Live and Big Trouble and Little China seem to tie.

So, anyways, if we've all finished guessing, I will wait for the replacement for Halloween and I'll probably reveal who nominated what some time this evening. And probably my own thoughts on what we have after the replacement nom comes in. . . or maybe not, no idea really. lol

I absolutely agree that The Thing was Carpenter's crowing achievement on multiple levels. One of my fave films of all time to be honest. Big Trouble in Little China I adore that movie. It does exactly what it wants, and knows what it is with NO apologies. Like a punk rock Indiana Jones meets Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein.

Dog Day Afternoon-It used to be a big favorite, but when I last watched it about 5 years ago I wasn't as big a fan. I've been meaning to see it again so I can know for sure how I feel. I could have had a bad day.

Harry and Tonto-I don't need to watch it again but I might. I think it's a great movie that has a chance to win this thing.

Three Days of the Condor-I believe this was the last movie I watched for the 70's countdown. I remember it as a good movie, but the movie itself is escaping me.

The Warriors-An all time favorite that I've seen many times and has made appearance in my top 10. One of the coolest, most quotable, and most fun movies I've seen.

The Sting-Saw it once and enjoyed it. The strange thing is that my opinion of it has gone steadily down upon reflection. It usually goes the other way.

What's Up, Doc? and F for Fake-Didn't care for either when I saw them a couple of years ago. Taste changes so we'll see what happens.

Kramer vs Kramer-I remember it as brilliant but it's been many years.

Eraserhead-Thought it was an ok watch the one time I saw it about 4 years ago.

The Last Picture Show-I really liked it when I watched it for the 70's countdown. I remember thinking it could become a favorite if I ever saw it again. It looks like I'll be seeing it again.

Red Psalm and Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion-Heard of both but seen neither.

Sorcerer-Never heard of it before.

Three Days of the Condor (1975) Director: Sydney Pollack Great spy flick with Robert Redford. Been quite some time since seeing this.

Indagine su un cittadino al di sopra di ogni sospetto aka Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (1970) Italian, Director: Elio Petri I have not heard of this but it definitely looks intriguing.

Dog Day Afternoon (1975) Director: Sidney Lumet See this a couple of times, really enjoy it, looking forward to revisiting it.

The Last Picture Show (1971) Director: Peter Bogdanovich This was actually on my "Blind Grab" should the others I had ready got nabbed up, so, pretty cool to see it nominated.

What's Up, Doc? (1972) Director: Peter Bogdanovich Been a while since seeing this, Vaudevillian/Marx Brothers influenced comedy.

Még kér a nép aka Red Psalm (1972) Hungarian, Director: Miklós Jancsó Have not heard of it, but very very curious about it.

Fantastic Planet (1973) Director: René Lalouxr Haven't seen this since I was in my late teens/early twenties -- and VERY VERY HIGH lol

Sorcerer (1978) Director: William Friedkin haven't seen it, but I DO recognize the poster though. I'd be curious, but if cricket doesn't know anything about it, it can't be any good, right? ;)

F for Fake (1973) Directors: Orson Welles, Oja Kodar, François Reichenbach, Gary Graver Haven't seen it but Citizen has raved about it, so I'm definitely in.

Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) Director: Robert Benton One of those must sees that I never did see, so here's a perfect opportunity.

Harry and Tonto (1974) Director: Paul Mazursky Always been curious about this one, very glad to finally feed that curiosity.

The Sting (1973) Director: George Roy HillHUGE HUGE fan of this. Could easily do a review, but screw that, I'm gonna watch it again!

The Warriors (1979) Director: Walter Hill I abhor violence. I just don't feel very comfortable about this being in the HoF to be honest.
:D

Eraserhead (1977) Director: David Lynch Another I haven't and always hear the extremes when it's spoken about so, looking forward to seeing where I land on this one.

Surprise! The Warriors is my nomination

I love this film....and I seen it first run when it came out back in 1979 at the theater.

Before watching it, you need to know, that it's not meant to be a realistic look at gangs in New York. The movie is told as a fable, set in some future dystopian time, when gangs had evolved and taken over the streets.

The movie is based on a 1965 novel that was based on an ancient Greek tale of Anabasis...and the movie also draws from Homer's Odyssey.

So if you go into this wondering why there's no cops, or traffic or people in the street, just remember this is a movie told in fable form, and set in some near-future.

This is news to me. There's even a tie in to Orson Welles and The Warriors

From Wiki
The director Walter Hill wanted Orson Welles to do a narrated introduction about Greek themes but the studio did not like this idea and refused to pay for it. However, this sequence was finally included in the 2005 Ultimate Director's Cut, with Hill providing the narration himself.

This movie has quite an amazing atmosphere, it makes it quite spooky. The use of the humming and the white noise also helps to build the atmosphere of the film. The imagery is amazing. The special effects are really, really good.

It’s quite hard to give an actual review of this film as it’s more of an experience than a film.

Dog Day Afternoon: Great film, Pacino's best performance IMO.
The Last Picture Show: Liked this quite a bit but don't remember it that well. I preferred Paper Moon from Bogdanovich which is one of my favourite films.
What's Up Doc?: It's weird that Bogdanovich has two films in this. After loving Paper Moon i ended up watching this and Nickolodeon; had already seen Last Picture Show. I liked this quite well and disliked Nickolodeon.
Fantastic Planet: Solid but not a favourite.
F For Fake: Of the six Welles films i've seen i'd have this second last, i do like it though. Think i respect it more than i enjoy watching it.
Kramer vs Kramer: A cloying melodrama that usually gets called oscar-bait nowadays, but one i really like. Mostly due to Hoffman's performance and how natural the father-son relationship feels.
The Sting: I didn't like this but i don't remember why.
The Warriors: Not a fan. Think it's dated in a way i can't handle although i understand the love.
Eraserhead: One of my favourite films, completely understand people despising it though. Like most of Lynch's films it's just a surreal experience that will hit some people and some it won't, first time i saw it i thought i hated it actually but i had to see it again.

Seen 9/14. Good bunch, i think it was better i stayed out of it though as i'm trying to cut down on rewatches. Might check a few of the ones i've not seen out and post my thoughts, Sorcerer and Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion in particular are ones i've wanted to see.

Three Days on the Condor: Heard the title but don't know what it's about. Should be interesting.
Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion, Red Psalm: Never heard of them, but it looks like they'll be a real bitch to find a copy of.
Fantastic Planet: Holy crap, this looks like it will be great. Glad Halloween was replaced with this.
Sorcerer: Found out about it 'cause of a reference on the Simpsons years ago. Looks like it'll be really good.
F for Fake: Most hyped to see this one, it'll be my second Welles film.
Harry and Tonto: I like cats, so I guess I'll like this.
Warriors: Was on my Netflix watch-list for a while, looks like it's time to watch it.

and also on the second post, on the 1st page.

I thought you might go for Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972)

Myself, I was thinking of going with The Beguiled (1971) (https://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?anchor=1&p=1756102#post1756102) as my nomination.

I might have nominated The Beguiled if you hadn't watched it recently.

The best i've got for Red Psalm so far is a link where you'll have to download and add your own subtitles (i could send the ones i already have over the e-mail thing like i did for Citizen, it takes two seconds). It's easy to do i showed Citizen how to and it was no problem, thing is though it's above embedded subtitles from another language which you can't remove. I tried it for maybe a minute, it's not that intrusive that it's unwatchable but i imagine it would hurt your enjoyment somewhat.

If anyone is interested in this PM me.

I might have nominated The Beguiled if you hadn't watched it recently. That would have been cool. I might have even rewatched it even though I just seen it. Great film that oozes early 70s film making.

Sorcerer sounds pretty damn cool too.
Four unfortunate men from different parts of the globe agree to risk their lives transporting gallons of nitroglycerin across dangerous South American jungle. That alone makes me want to see the movie! And it has Roy Schneider too, who's always intense. Good choice.

I decided to go with something a little more accessible for everyone this time. I had been going with foreign or more artistic movies lately.

Did anyone see The Tin Drum (1979) by any chance ?

Also, I will probably need some assistance with finding Harry and Tonto . It is suprisingly difficult to find.

I thought it was great and it was another I considered nominating.

Absolutely brilliant. It certainly deserved the Oscar for best original screenplay. John Cazale and Pacino give a brilliant performance, probably my favourite performance by Pacino. The tension and the claustrophobic setting MAKE this film. Lots of comedic relief. Wasn’t at all surprised when I found out it was directed by Sidney Lumet, who directed the masterpieces 12 Angry Men and Network. The relationship between Pacino and his boy/girlfriend is very heartwarming.

Also it has the best fking tagline of all time.
'The robbery should have taken 10 minutes. 4 hours later, the bank was like a circus sideshow. 8 hours later, it was the hottest thing on live T.V. 12 hours later, it was all history. And it's all true.'
If that doesn't hype you up for this film I don't know what will.

Might change it to a 4.5 if I'm really generous.

That was supposed to be my original nomination, but I decided against it because of some disturbing scenes. Cool thing about Tin Drum is that there is one pretty big scene which was shot in my neighborhood.

I have nominated some movies that are more disturbing than that. I wouldn't worry about that one, and it would be a great nomination for the eventual foreign film Hall of Fame.

Did you see that recently? Because I thought you said in the past you hadn't seen it. I could be mistaken.

I'm not sure how long ago it was since I have a very poor concept of time. It was within the past couple of months though. I saw someone post about The White Ribbon, so I watched that and The Tin Drum over whichever weekend that was.

That makes sense because it's probably been a year since I asked you. I don't see you posting what you watch anywhere.

Here is the scene I was talking about. Shot in my neighborhood square though it looks drastically different now. My father was actually one of the extras in that scene.
