This is the one category that I was really shocked to get nominated in and now I've tied in it? With last year's winner, no less? How the hell did that happen?!

I'm shocked and honored, truly.

And on that note, this is one category that I didn't vote for myself in. My vote went to Gunslinger. Not only does he probably have the most survival skills of anyone nominated, but being an attractive straight male he'd be good for... uh... other things.

Boss. Chief. Hierarch. Leader. These all describe our Master of Movie candidates for 2014. We as Mofos watched and learned a ton about movies throughout this year, perhaps more than any other year as a community whole. And we shared it a lot more this year, reaching new post heights for the website. These five gentlemen have given us extraordinary analysis, detailed opinions, and countless hours of their time to the world of cinema.

Markf. The man watches movies like they are going out of style. I probably can't even come up with five movies that he hasn't seen. He posts a list of 20 movies in the movie tab about every three days, and his passion for film is legendary. Congratulations on the nomination.

Holden Pike. Never before have we seen a Mofo list presenter be so passionate about the list that he was given to be the leader of. His thoughts and analysis for the 70s list was truly impeccable. The man lives and breathes cinema, as far as his Monty Python shirts show us. You sir are a MOFO legend.

Yoda. While you haven't necessary seen as much as others here, you can certainly hold your own with your thoughts and feelings on them. Your podcasts are enjoyable and you seem to get a lot of praise from them as you should. Doing the Fantastic Planet podcast with you was an honor sir, and we look forward to doing more of them with you in the future. Congrats.

Cricket. Never since Mark have we seen a MOFO watch movies at such a rampant pace. Your determination to get to films of all kinds is truly remarkable. At this rate, you will have seen nearly everything worth watching. You are the true future of MOFO, and for that I congratulate you on your nomination.

Mr. Minio. Otherwise known as the art house mafia leader. This man has seen everything that everyone else hasn't seen and then some. He is the clan leader of the unknown, the king of kinkiness, and the ultimate mafia master. Well earned nomination sir.

I like all sorts of films. I'm the chameleon of the movie forums, I'll watch whatever takes my fancy. I must admit, most the films I see you discussing I haven't seen, it's not that I won't watch them, but there are just too many films to see that I have to prioritise certain things, maybe one day I'll post about some f*cked up film (okay, maybe I'm reading to much into the recent 'Cannibal fiasco') I just watched and me and you can finally have a great film discussion! :p

Thanks to everyone who voted for me, nominated me, or in general sent good vibes my way. I tell you, I really needed them today. My grandmother, who already has cancer, was admitted to the hospital today after a serious fall she had that left her with internal bleeding in the head. It looks like she doesn't have much time left. That's why I couldn't be here - my sister and I rushed down to see her to say our goodbyes. While I was there, sitting in the waiting room, I popped on here to see I had won Most Improved MoFo. Seeing all you guys say such nice things about me, it cheered me up a bit. I love you guys so much, don't you forget it.

I was hoping to nab the Thanks for Being My Friend award more than anything, but I am SO happy honeykid won it instead. He deserves it. Swan, I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother. I went through something similar with my Grandmother back when I was in my teens, and I wouldn't wish something like that on my worst enemy. It's a terrible feeling just knowing that time is running out, and there's a feeling of helplessness because there's nothing that anyone can do about it.

Just try to remember all the good times you had with her when you were younger. My family spent a lot of time just sitting and talking about all the fun we had over the years. That's what got me through it.

Catching up on everything I didn't get to comment on:

Mark F was my vote for Most Helpful. Anytime someone has a question about a movie or asks for recommendations, Mark is there to assist. I've PM'd him a few times in the past with specific questions, and he's always helpful with his responses, either writing me a response or pointing me to a thread or post that will help me out. Yoda would've been my second choice, since he's extremely helpful with all questions relating to the forum as a whole.

Even though I was nominated for Ray of Sunshine, I voted for Christine instead of myself. Every single post she makes is cheerful and encouraging. Someone posts a picture of themselves, she's there to compliment the person's looks. Someone posts a review, she's there to say "good job." I'm happy she won.

Not surprisingly, Sexy Celebrity was my vote for Thanks for Being My Friend. Everyone sees the bath posts and whatnot, but he and I have actually been private messaging back and forth quite a bit over the last few months. Some of our messages are as long as JayDee's reviews. I've come to view him as a true friend. If something is bothering me, if I need to talk to somebody, I feel better knowing that he's there to listen. However, I'm not surprised that honeykid won, since he tends to go out of his way to make every new member feel welcome.

Nostromo was my vote for Best Avatar. The Invisible Man avatar would be cool even if it didn't move, but the fact that it actually rocks back and forth puts it over the top. It's the coolest avatar on here, which is fitting, since Nostromo is one of our coolest members.

I voted Sexy Celebrity for Most Controversial. Guap and 90sAce are both more deserving, but they're controversial in the sense that I actually dislike them, whereas SC is a fun controversial, if that makes any sense. Plus I just like voting for my baby. :kiss: Besides, I'll be surprised if 90sAce is still around a few months from now, and Guap is always just a Miyazaki diss away from hate-quitting, so I think these awards should go to members who are more fully committed to the forum.

I thought Overachiever had already been handed out, but obviously I got that confused with Good Sport. Regardless, Godoggo was my vote for both.

If I had to be Stranded on an Island with someone, of course I want it to be the love of my life (SC). He could bathe me in the ocean every day! I guess Miss Vicky and Gunslinger are fun co-champions, though. I'm already picturing the two of them in an X-rated version of Gilligan's Island.

I was just happy to be nominated for Best Reviewer. I voted for JayDee because he deserved it the most. I know from experience that it takes a long damn time to write long, in-depth reviews. I feel exhausted after doing so, which is why I go long periods of time without reviewing anything. Yet JayDee churns out these novella-sized reviews with regularity. I'm in awe of him, to be honest.

Master of Movies was easy: Mark F. I've never known anyone with such an exhaustive knowledge of cinema. The man has seen EVERYTHING. I mean, he watched more movies last year than I've watched in my entire life! It boggles my mind. I'd do anything just to have 1/18th of his familiarity and knowledge of movies.

I'm very surprised by honeykid winning Funniest MoFo. I think he deserved to be nominated. He's made me laugh in the past, but I personally find SC, Swan, and Cricket far funnier. I think Cricket could win this award in a landslide if he cracked jokes more often. His perverted sense of humor really appeals to me, but unlike Swan and SC, he doesn't try to be funny quite as often. Swan is bit of a comic genius. I very nearly voted for him, despite my allegiance to SC, but I had to go with Sexy Celebrity. I literally laugh-out-loud several times a day when reading SC's posts. I know how badly he wanted this award, and I fear that some may have voted for Honeykid just to get a rise out of SC, because people like to poke SC with a stick and watch him get worked up for their own amusement. I laugh sometimes just reading the name of a thread SC has created, let alone the contents of the threads themselves. I have lost both my grandparents from both my father and mother's side, to alchohol. And no, they aren't dead, but the fact that knowing they are alive but you can't see them is even worse, to me at least. I miss them, but when I think about the awful situations I've experienced when they are "in that state" I'd rather not be with them... So it's for the better, but still it isn't fun.

And when you are celebrating Christmases and Birthdays with only your parents and your sister you really feel the need for more company...

I don't think that's true at all. You have to remember that the two of them tied and both won the award last year - which was the first annual MoFies. A lot of people, myself included, genuinely appreciate honeykid's sense of humor, which is why he earned so many votes both years. I think it's a much deserved win.

Sexy can be very funny sometimes, but all too often he's more obnoxious than amusing. He tends to fixate on things and keep dragging up the same "joke" over and over again. I think that may have been his downfall.

Have now caught up with the entire thread. Just as with last year another very entertaining event. Huge credit to G-dog and Rodent for putting it all together, and to all the presenters that also contributed. Great stuff.

I didn't do too bad at all in terms of my picks. I had Cap (Best Newcomer), Rodent (Most Creative), Swan (Most Improved), G-dog (Good Sport and Overachiever), HK (Friend and Funniest), Mark (The Master), Friendly Mushroom (Username) and Vicky (Island).

I missed on a few but couldn't really put up much argument against the actual winners. For Best Thread I went for the Chill Club because it's good fun and I pretty much missed all of the 70s Countdown. I've got little awareness of many game threads so I went for the Box Office Challlenge as Best Game which is about the only one I regularly take part in. Best Post I went for Sexy Grinch. Best Avatar I think I went for Vicky's Joaquin/Commodus avi. Best Couple I think was cricket and Swan. Post More and Ray of Sunshine I think I went for nebbit in both. Though for Ray of Sunshine I really can't take it away from Christine either. I just wish I knew her better, somehow our paths don't seem to have crossed a great deal.

Thanks, I appreciate it. It is definitely tough. I nearly broke down and cried when I walked in, she looked terrible. But, all you can do in these situations is try and stay positive, as practically impossible as it might seem. I feel it's the right time for her to go, and I think she thinks so too.

Swan, I wish you a lot of strength, my friend. I had the same experience with my grandfather a couple of years ago. I also broke down and cried for hours. Seeing someone you respect and love so much being so unbelievably sick and helpless is one of the most painful and emotional things I've ever been through. Cherish those last moments, though, even if they are painful to go through.

Be sure to remember the good times with your grandmother and give yourself some time and space at times to think about her. You'll see that in some kind of strange way she'll always stay a part of you. :)

To be fair tensions between us have now eased. Our 'feud' was at its most potent a couple of years ago and it centred around reviews. While there are a lot of regular reviewers around now, a couple of years ago it seemed to be just us two battling it out.

I can see where you are coming from. I certainly was nominated in more categories than I should have been and I know that some of that came from me running the show.

However, I do think your awards were deserved in the categories you won. I voted for you in the smartest category and you are smart. This isn't me trying to gain points, I'm just trying to say that maybe you ended up on the ballot in places where someone else may have if you weren't the site owner, but I bet you would have won the smartest award regardless.

As for helpful, there are a lot of helpful mofos and that could have gone to a few different members. You probably get points because you are helpful and you're nice about it. A lot of forum owners are very snippy about pointing things out or seem very put upon when you need anything from them. I think the members really appreciate the way they are treated here.

Of course people should be able to ask not to participate and excuse them themselves from being nominated for whatever reason, but I do think people end up voting for the person they think deserves to win. There is also an option of asking to not be nominated in certain categories, I guess.
