Addams Family Values was on my list. I also really like Tales From the Crypt.

The Mask is Jim Carrey at the height of his zaniness. Very funny and re-watchable.
It also has Cameron Diaz the hottest she ever has been and ever will be.
Speed Racer is a bluray dream. Beautiful to look at, hyper-kinetic with a poor story. It has some "on in the background" feel to it.

This list is a joke.
Some of the worst movies of ALL-TIME are on this Best of All Time list? Come on people. One man throws a crappy film in his top 5 and all of a sudden it warrants a spot on the list? Maybe films included on the list should have at least a certain number of votes.
Maybe 5 members put one film at their 25th spot, while one joker but a crappy film in his number one spot and that crappy film makes it while the other does not. How is this just?
I hope we start getting to some good films, cause this is embarrassing.

Rather than coming in here and slamming everyone else's choices... you should have used the 6 month lead up to put your own list in and gobsmacked us.
Anyway...
Mystery Men is a great film... enjoyed The Rocketeer when I first saw it.
Haven't seen the other two.

I considered voting for When the Wind Blows and I enjoyed The Rocketeer, but neither made my list.
Aw. Sad Mystery Men isn't higher. I know it gets panned a lot, but I've never understood that. I can only assume it comes from wanting it to be an action film, even though it's really a comedy. And a really funny one, too.

Bit of a stats thing now...
Tomorrow is 64-61... much of a muchness, with only needing a couple votes to get a film on the list...
... but the Top 60, which starts on Friday (60-57), is a bit of a change.
Bit of a jump in voter numbers (with exception to only one of them), we're looking at 4, 5 and 6 being the minimum amount of votes to get on the list.
I had no idea Mystery Men was based on a comic book, otherwise it would have been on my list, and pretty high up too.
I did have Heavy Metal on my list, at #8.

That's impossible.
-I'm a Pantera's box you do not wanna open.
-Looks like tonight the lone wolf rides alone.
-You dress in the manner of a male prostitute!
-Let's triangulate.
-Equilateral or isosceles?
-When you care what is outside, what is inside cares for you.
Or for some longer ones...
-What vill we do about the greatest superhero Champion City has ever known?
For the answer, I want you all to walk this way.
-Dude, can we bring the brewskis?
-Yes, of course. You may absolutely bring ze brewskis.
-Well, it all started when I was just 13 years of age. One day, while walking with some friends, I accidentally cut the cheese. In my adolescent awkwardness, I blamed it on an old gypsy woman who happened to be passing by. BIG MISTAKE! The gypsy woman placed a curse upon my head. Because I smelled it, she decreed I would forevermore BE HE WHO DEALT IT!

Lovely to see When The Wind Blows on the list. Such a touching book that is. In fact anything written by Raymond Briggs is awesome - The Snowman, Father Christmas, Ethel and Ernest . My kids favourite when they were little was a pop up Fungus the Bogeyman book, I still have all battered and torn now but it had a well loved life!

I liked the mutated vampires one the second one, but I still think that the first is far superior. If Ryan Reynolds hadn't been in the third I don't know that I would have liked it as much. His character was really funny and made the movie worth watching.

The Wolverine is the better of the X Men films. I think with it being a stand alone film based in another part of the world gives it a different edge to the others.
Def my fave of the X films.
Sadly though, I hadn't seen it when I put my list in otherwise it may have cracked my top 10 and got a higher placing on the countdown. I could have edited my list and cheated, but, that wouldn't have been fair.

Seen all four of these. The less said about Spider-Man 3 the better.
It's been awhile since I've seen The Punisher, but I remember it being at least good. Didn't vote for it though.
I did however vote for the other two. I am surprised to see Dick Tracy, I thought that if it hadn't shown up yet it just wasn't going to. Thanks to whoever else voted for it.

Battle Royale isn't based on a manga. Both the movie and the manga are adaptations of the novel. The first manga series even came after the movie. (the manga is terrible by the way. Haven't read the novel. The movie is alright but I didn't vote for it.)
Didn't vote for Tekkon Kinkreet (not sure if I even finished it), but the animation is nice. I read the manga when it was first serialized in English in Pulp magazine but that was long enough ago that I'm not sure how I'd rate it. It's worth reading, though.
Ichi the Killer (both the manga and the movie) is ok, but didn't vote for it either.
Along with the ones I've mentioned previously, I voted for Phantasm, Popeye, When the Wind Blows and Memories.
The rest I either think are okay or dislike.

I had most people not including dates on the films to decipher between originals and retakes (things like The Punisher and The Punisher) and had to keep asking people which one of the films they were voting for.
Meant overall, I had to research every film that was entered on its first time, to get the dates.
Yes! Hellboy II: The Golden Army was #10 on my list. The only reason it's so low is because I wanted to separate it and Hellboy, which I put much higher.

What were you all expecting Man Of steel to be? An academy award winner?
There's a lot of ground in between what it was and an Academy Award winner. Thor was a good movie, The Avengers was good, The first two Dark Knight films were good, all the Iron Man's were pretty good, etc. That's what I expected but what we got was buildings being knocked over and horribly manipulative scenes involving kids, dogs and, worst of all, Kevin Costner ;)

I liked Man Of Steel, obviously as I had it on my list.
Hated it to start with but MOS is what a Superman film should be. Super burly battles etc.
Maybe they should have put a musical number in the middle like Donner did in '78.
People forget that Donner's film was an original take... Man Of Steel is the same.
Yet nobody compares Donner's films to the original source, nor to the many, many TV Series's's's and films that came before it, but they compare MOS to Donner's.
Man Of Steel is a case of selective memory, I guess.

The other thing with Man Of Steel with comparing it to Donner's films... studios tried to emulate Donner with Superman Returns.
And that really was a pile of poo.
What would people prefer... yet another Superman Returns... or the original take called Man Of Steel?

I'd prefer Superman die off, he's a super boring character
I think the newer Superman films are compared to the '78 one for two reasons. The original had hokey, but charming F/X and the even-more-charming Christopher Reeve. It was also actually fun.The newer ones have CGI to burn, but they're lacking in any charm and seem to take themselves too seriously. I didn't dislike the newer films either but was comparatively underwhelmed.
Just catching up a bit. So far I've seen 28 of those listed, and so far only 2 from my list - Hellboy II and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
I didn't realise Hugo would have been eligible. Great little film although I wouldn't have voted for it as I was sticking pretty much to just superheroes.
***SELF-ADVERTISING ALERT*** Just earlier on tonight I actually posted a review of Hugo for anyone who might be interested. :p
The Wolverine is def the best X film so far... I'd put X3 second, then X2, X1, First Class then have Origins last...
Wow Rodent we're usually quite simpatico but you've got strange taste when it comes to X-Men movies. :D I watched The Wolverine just before submitting my list and I thought it was decent but a little lifeless surprisingly. X-Men 3 I thought was a complete mess. It had two stories that could have made for interesting films (Dark Phoenix and the mutant cure) but by trying to squeeze both of them into the one film neither was dealt with satisfactorily. Oh yeah and Vinne Jones.
For me it would go to X2, First Class, X-Men, The Wolverine, X-Men 3, Origins
Oh yeah and Man of Steel sucks! :p

Hmmm, I figured the list of all the "voters" he mentioned in the first post makes this fairly plain, though I guess it wouldn't hurt. Anyway, that'll be the list organizer's call. :)

I still haven't seen the last two Iron-Man movies. I saw Captain America during a hospital visit, I couldn't get into it. Maybe the circumstances had something to do with it? Or maybe it just isn't very good. The only thing I cared about in The Amazing Spider-Man was looking at Emma Stone.
Ghost in the Shell is the only in the group that I voted for. As far as animated action films, this is probably my favorite.

The Rodent

Yes... revealing your lists beforehand just defeats the purpose of having a Countdown as people could potentially put two and two together and get the final results and spoil the surprises.
If you want to ping up a list of your own on here, kind of a "this is what I would have voted if I'd entered a list"... it'd be fine :)
The only one i have watched there is Amazing Spiderman, and i personally couldn't stand it. I'd say i even preferred Spiderman 3. I'll watch Iron Man 3 at some point as i enjoyed the first two.
TASM is the only one of these four I've seen and I didn't think much of it. It wasn't terrible but it so bloody generic and paint by the numbers that I'd forgotten 90% of the movie half an hour after I saw it.
Nice to GITS made it into the top 50. I meant to watch it before turning my list in but never got around to it due to a huge pile of schoolwork.

Ghost in the Shell will be very high on my list, but Iron Man 3, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Amazing Spider-Man will not be appearing, sorry.
No need to apologize since none of those films appeared on even a third of the lists. :)
They're still fairly highly ranked and appeared way more than Ghost in the Shell, or most if not all of the movies I'll list.
I didn't vote for any of those but have seen them all. Watched GitS twice but couldn't really get into it. Not sure why. Saw Iron Man 3 after making my list - may have snuck in at about 25. It was my favourite of that trilogy. I turned Captain America off after 20 minutes and have never wanted to go back. Not sure if it was the film's fault or mine but I will probably give it another go before seeing the new one. I really liked the start of TASM but then it got pretty standard. However, I have new appreciation for it since watching the first two Maguire movies - it's way better than them.

:) No probs, it is a nice list though.
Doing this list has given me a broader knowledge of comics and Mangas, graphic novels and other media that are branches of those circles.
I was surprised how little I knew 6 months ago when I started taking entries. I was expecting the regulars like Superman films and Spider-Man films and so on, maybe a few well known graphic novels as well like 300 or Sin City, but when I started getting stuff like the various Lone Wolf And Cub films, and others like the various Anime films, and I started researching them to check eligibility for the list, it opened my eyes to how many thousands of films would count in this list.
rauldc14
04-16-14, 06:13 PM
This list can certainly not be a check off list. I know I voted for these two, but Cowboys and Aliens and Wanted do not deserve to be on a check off list. It's just I couldn't think of anything to fill in the end of my list.
The Rodent
04-16-14, 06:15 PM
Well, I said before if Yods wants to drop the bottom end and use the top 60, or top 50 or 40 or so I'd be cool with it.
Well I would say hundreds, not thousands. I was actually surprised by how few mangas were adapted to film. They tend to go to OVA's or Series. Although I am not sure where the line is drawn between OVA and film, but OVA's tend to be shorter. If a semi-graphic novel counts, perhaps an OVA does? If that were the case my list would change drastically.
Dragon's Heaven (1988) for example is only thirty minutes long, but it is based off an manga by the same name.
This list can certainly not be a check off list. I know I voted for these two, but Cowboys and Aliens and Wanted do not deserve to be on a check off list. It's just I couldn't think of anything to fill in the end of my list.

Interesting that you rank Spider Man so high. I haven't watched the Lone Wolf and Cub films but I have read the manga and it ranks among the best stuff I have ever read. You don't like the non-violent Ghibli films based on graphic novels like Porco Rosso, Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday?
I haven't seen Porco Rosso or Only Yesterday, but Whisper of the Heart I liked, just not as much as the ones I listed.
I actually liked the 2002 Spider-Man a lot. It is a very romantic film. Kirsten Dunst was my third celebrity crush after Kate Beckinsale and Claire Danes. But to be honest I don't like putting prioritization on ordering. I don't like trying to gauge if a film is slightly better than another or if I like it slightly more or less. One day I could "feel" like it's a bit more, another day I could "feel" like it's a bit less. I think it's kind of immature to put so much emphasis on such superficial evaluations that I'm not even qualified to make. Typically I rate my films by tiers. So I have like a top 10 or 15 tier, a top 50 tier, a top 100, etc... but within each tier I place them in no particular order.
I tried to structure this list in order to the best of my abilities, but if you really ask me, I do not value a movie one or two points higher on the list more than a movie one or two points lower. It was easier with this kind of list though because the genre is more exclusive.

I like Ghost World. TMNT is a childhood favorite and a classic. Not seen the other two. I wonder if 30 Days of Night will make the list..it's on mine.

Watchmen and Kick-Ass will make it, too.

Watchmen is in my top 10. Kick Ass not so high up.:)
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and Nausicaa are gonna show, and I would think Persepolis too.
Ummmm Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic film. Dark, funny, exciting and immensely rewatchable.
Only in the sense that Ghost Busters and Jurassic Park are classic films. Not in the sense that Casablanca is a classic film.
Blue is the Warmest Color is a film I had forgotten existed and really want to see. And The Crow is a film I haven't seen in so long I can barely remember. I need to re-watch it.

Alright, so we have 26 confirmed then. We may as well race through this puppy.
Blimp's title comes from a comic strip, although the film is pretty much all original. Of course, Col. Blimp doesn't exist in the film although Wynne-Candy is supposed to be inspired to a degree by him. The movie was approved for the list though. :) Miyazaki himself released a manga of Nausicaa before the movie.

Dredd will definitely make it as well. Road to Perdition and Barbarella have fair chances too?

I hope Barbarella makes it, although I'm not so sure it will. :(

Well if u and Justin both had it on your lists and it got 18 points, then it's on,

Unfortunately I totally forgot about it when I made me list. Makes me sad. It would have been high up too.

If I had participated, Ghost World would've been my number 1. Sad to see it so low, but the only way I could've come up with the requisite 25 films would've been to throw in lots of crappy filler like Man of Steel and I just couldn't bring myself to do that.
I guess I should just be glad Ghost World beat out Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, even though it was only by 1 point.
I just checked and Ghost World had my number one spot. I really did think it would place higher than it did. I figured it for being on a lot more lists than it was, even if people didn't place it very high.

Better than Priscilla being the number 1 in your 70s list.
I was going to place Barbarella and Road to Perdition on my list, but unfortunately they got bumped.
