Augh! K-Rod gets traded to the Orioles to be a set-up guy, and now I need a closer. Have offers out to Scotts Fontenots, and Tims Squeeze.

C.C. Sabathia for Jake Marisnick? Really?
I'd rather have Sabathia's upside, but check his numbers and consider the innings he's thrown. He's basically been a #5 starter who's actively hurting your ERA and WHIP, and we've played about 60% of the games this season. Would it shock you if this was it for him?

There's no defense here. This is a ridiculous trade. There's been more than one of them this year. But whatever. I'm not gonna waste a bunch of time arguing about it either.
Well, look: I'd rather have Sabathia. I just think it's really hard to figure out when to trade a big name guy that's playing terribly.
Especially in a Roto league, where sound strategy often necessitates wild trades as the year goes on.

Kevin Greggs back on The Bad News Bears!
I picked up Pedro Strop & James Russell too in case he loses his spot. Buh bye to Raul Ibanez whose departure makes it easier to slot Grandy when he gets back, maybe even by next week.

If C.C. was still on my team he probably would have been dropped by me. The guy can put you in some very frustrating positions, kind of like how Verlander has the past month.
Well, trade got vetoed, anyway, so there you go. The system works, and stuff.

Kind of angry that when I was out of town on business is when Ozuna and Rutledge got optioned to double and triple A. Or else Marisnick and Yelich would have been my pickups, and Yelich is on a tear.

Yeah, I would drop him, but he's ON THE CAN'T CUT LIST. Now I'm just gonna proposing various trades that may or may not make sense.

Augh what a spot! Here Pat, Ill give you Jake Peavy for him.
Yeah, or you could just ask a little more for him. I'm pretty sure you can get someone above waiver-level.

I am taking offers for Melky Cabrera, Matt Holiday, Yasiel Puig, Tori Hunter, Hunter Pence, Bryce Harper. I have one to many outfielders. I could use a SS or starting pitcher.
Well, just traded Zobrist and Bourn for Goldschmidt and K. Johnson. I'm still not entirely sure which side of the deal I prefer, since that's a ton of depth to give up, but I said yes because I need power numbers more than steals and runs and my bench depth is pretty good.
Guess we'll see how this works out.

The Defending Champeens offered me Peralta for Holiday yesterday. Really? :nope:

Clayton Kershaw is on the block.
Looking for a heavy hitter with great average, homers, and RBIs.
Trade deadline is August 18th.
Decided to go for it: Craig for Kershaw. I've been holding onto Craig because he's been propping up my average all season, but Kershaw is too dominant to pass up. Time to make up some points in wins and k's! Good trade.
Awesome! Craigs just what I need to save my average and RBIs. Great trading with you SYJ
Just a FYI to everyone, Clayton Kershaw moved the fastest of all the players Ive ever traded. Even Cargo.

Well consider yourself lucky. Tongo is forced to shed some pitching because currently he is projected 110.2 innings over the innings limit(which is 1500) Tongo has made up a lot of ground in the rankings but it is going to be very hard for him sustain. You got to figure a lot of the reason he has shot up so high is because he has started so many pitchers to this point. A couple weeks before the end of the season he will not be able to start anyone and will miss out on save opportunities. Unfortunately his team will fall in the ranking when this happens. Sorry Tongo if my evaluation and prediction was harsh but its probably the truth.
Good thing about the innings limit, any points normally gained or lost wont affect me whatsoever. I cant gain any points in pitching, and cant lose any points then either. So we will see how it plays out.

You can lose points if people close to you in strikeouts, wins or saves catch up because if you hit your limit early. They will be gaining on you and you wont be able to anything about it.

No it would be they would gain points for overtaking me, but since I hit my inning cap I wont lose points. All my pitching category points are frozen.
Edit in - Might not matter anyway cause of the 5 starters I have, 2 are on the mend. I wont pitch Helli & Moore vs anyone like I would with Price & Cobb. Archers getting to be near that category, and hope he rocks the D-Backs tonight. So I still might have activity on my pitching near seasons end.

Sorry buddy but, yes you will lose points. You can't contend due to your pitch count getting so high, though you'll still land in the middle of the field, better than me in the basement.
Yeah, your points are rankings relative to other teams, they can't get frozen. If you stop getting Ks and Wins and Saves and everyone else keeps getting them, they can pass you, and the point total will go down.
Every point gained by one team is a point lost by another, because the points are actually rankings.
ah crap
That's why Mikeython was saying that you made a good trade by getting Craig for Kershaw. There's no limit on how many games you get from your position players, so Craig is more valuable to you than a pitcher whose innings wouldn't count for his last 3 starts or so. Although I guess you could just bench all of your pitchers except for your best 3 or 4 (which would include Kershaw), and just hope for really high quality innings.
I'd say it's the other way around: if you only have a handful of innings left, you need to be pickier, so a high-quality guy like Kershaw is valuable.
Anyway, whether or not he needed to deal a starter is still a separate question from what return he might expect. The idea of dealing him might have been good, but it's hard to imagine he couldn't get a somewhat better return than Craig (who's quite good, too, don't get me wrong).
Chris Archer just got pulled from in the 2nd inning for forearm tightness, so thatll prob mean 3 on the DL (Moore & Cobb). It just keeps coming and coming.
The only thing I can figure to do at this point is try and stretch out these last 350 innings as much as I can. Its possible. I got to just pick and choose who pitches when and against who. If I was able to cram a bunch of innings in there before, I should be able to do the opposite of that now.
Yeah, there are two ways to think of this now: either you can keep most of your guys and just start the best matchups, or you can figure out how many you need to finish around the limit and trade the others. Both are perfectly sound strategies, though the former only makes sense if you have lots of guys of roughly the same level of quality.

ah crap
What I would do here on out is pick favorable pitching match ups that would help your WINS an SO totals because your era and whip will be the least affected by the position you are currently in. Also trade out another pitcher for an offensive player that could help you make those points up. Like a SB guy if you are close to other teams in SB's, or RUNS guy if you are close in that.

I would wait a little bit before trading though. These injuries you have might actually help your team.
I might trade a closer not named Fernando Rodney, but I dont even know what I need now on offense. My offense now actually looks better than it has all year. Except for Derek Jeter the future hall of lamer. Thanks for the heads-up Mikey

FYI, it's plastered right on the league home page, but the trading deadline is August 18th, IE: 10 days from now.
^^^^ Dont I know it.
Got 2 offers out - Offering Mikey Michael Bourn for James Loney. I need average and Loneys bat is steadier this year than Bourns. Mikey needs stolen bags.
Other one is to Dionnes Kinkys - Curtis Granderson for Alex Rios.

I do think next year we should create positional limits as well. I mean you can drop and add players all year long if there's no limit and stats all add up with the exception of average. Not that it makes a huge difference, but it does make a bit of one.
Well, the only time it makes a difference is if you pick up a bunch of guys on those days where only a few teams are playing. But in order to do that you need to construct your roster so that you're always ready to roll over several roster spots, which I think is probably a big hindrance in the long run. I'm not sure if that's good strategy or not.
Decided to cancel the 2nd offer to Dionne. I believe Rios will finish stronger than Grandy, but thats just a hunch. Grandersons got serious power, and thats not a hunch.
Let's make a deal. I'm in the basement anyways.
Allright. Lets see if we can get something done.
Offering rauldc14 Curtis Granderson & Derek Jeter for Wil Myers.
It may seem too loaded but Grandys been underperforming since his return, and Jeter has been hurt.
He's only played nine games since his return. That's an utterly meaningless sample size.
Yeah I guess youre right. I cancelled it. Mumble grumble.
Offering Mikey, Adrian Gonzalez & Michael Bourn for Yasiel Puig & James Loney.
Edit in - Or he can go for Gonzo & Bourn for Pence & Loney. His call.
Making another "one last bid" for Wil Myers. I think Myers is my white whale.
He said no to Buster Posey & Michael Bourn.
I sent him another offer of Adrian Gonzalez & Tony Cingrani. Im thinking theres a 75% chance he'll say no.
Im so astonished that I feel sharing this is postworthy.
Oh, and if he does accept, and its vetoed down dont fret. Id understand, but of course Id rather have Myers.
Trade deadline's tomorrow, BTW. It's been plastered on the top of the league page for a couple of weeks, but I'm guessing a few people haven't noticed, so here's your obligatory reminder post.
Well I guess this is the moment of truth. Rauld has seen the offer, got the PM on it, and is presently on the forum. Do we have a trade......?
I find the dopgile on Dusty to be pretty over-the-top these days, and I was a pretty harsh critic in the past.

Dude I do work some weekends. I can't possibly respond 24/7. This isn't the first time give me a break.
Dustin the trade deadlines tomorrow. I sent that offer to you last night. Youve been on the site here and there so you couldve bothered to respond to any of the PM"s" I sent, and thats not the first time so you give me a break. Dont even try and play that poor victim crap with me

Send the offer if youre really interested, and Ill accept.
So Rauldc14 sends me an offer of Wil Myers & Wade Miley for Adrian Gonzalez & Allen Craig. Thats an easy no.
I counter with Allen Craig & Tony Cingrani for Wil Myers. Its not as ridiculous, and actually would help him more.
...and he rejects Allen Craig & Tony Cingrani.

This would be a good time to acknowledge Frightened Inmate #2 and syj as a couple of great additions to the league. They show there are people out there that know their baseball, actually watch it, are open to communication, and trade wisely. Need more of you guys :)

Thanks! I really like this league. I've actually never been much of a trader, but it's been a lot of fun. Some of the trades turn out well (Wilhelmsen for Soriano :D) and some not so well (Everth Cabrera ). It's also cool that you have to dig so deep for decent players to fill out your lineup. I have multiple Astros on my team and I'm not in last! Thanks for always keeping things interesting Tongo.
Agreed! You guys are great additions to the league!
