The fact that it's a prequel starring a pair of nigh-invulnerable immortals and several other characters who definitely survive to be in the franchise's original installments sucks a lot of tension out of the whole film and it's not like the remaining characters are interesting enough to care about ...

Eventually, most of the characters that were omitted from X-Men, X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand were written into Wolverine permanently but not without more controversy when Sabretooth was set to return but with Liev Schreiber in the role instead of X-Men original cast member Tyler Mane.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the prime example of what happens when a movie is rushed and unoriginal, and when a movie series becomes so desperate to please fans it takes any opportunity to cram in a comic book character.

There's lot of fighting, lots of cool action scenes, but the one death scene that I wanted to witness did not occur...

Though Wolverine's (Hugh Jackman) back story was hazy after the first X-Men film, the sequels which followed (X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand) made it a focal point.

I don’t even know if I could say that it worked well as an action movie, which is actually pretty sad.

All in all, Hood did a commendable job taking on an X-Men character after Brett Ratner butchered the series with X-3. If you're one of those individuals who hasn't seen the leaked version, take it for what it is as a superhero film. After all, it's worthy of at least a matinee ticket to see.

The best recommendation I can give for casual fans of comics, or the [I]X-Men[/I] universe, is to expect a typical summer flick that’s relies on tightly shot and packed action. And for you diehard fans…expect to be disappointed.

It's leaps and bounds over the last film, but doesn't hold a candle to the second one.
