I've decided to get together with some friends and watch some movies.

I'm considering buying a couple of dvds for the purpose, if I can find any fitting my particular appetite...

I'm in the mood for something a bit weird.
Like Shaolin Soccer or Death Proof/Planet Terror, only problem being, I've seen all of those...

Possibly some wacky japanese action or something, I don't know.

I ain't gettin' in no fryer!
Battle Royale - Definitely falls under the wacky Japanese action area. Far from funny, but interesting, nonetheless.

Aye, I'll second that. Just saw Battle Royale a few weeks ago. Little long and certainly odd, but if it sounds right up your alley, if you haven't seen it already.

I recommend:

Evil dead
Conan the barbarian
Mad max
Big trouble in little china
The goonies

BTW thx for reminding me of Shaolin Soccer its back on my to watch list.

Not all exactly what you want, but all great movie night fodder.

Wild Zero
Bio-Zombie
Machine Girl
For Y'Ur Height Only (if you can find this, it's a must-buy)
Dog Soldiers
Feast
Foxy Brown
Garth Marenghi's Dark Place (it's a tv series, but only 6 episodes and brilliant)
Blood Feast
Two Thousand Maniacs
The Tripper
Anything from Mystery Science Theatre: 3000
Pyschomania
Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus
John Carpenter's Vampires
Kingdom Of The Spiders
Death Race 2000
The Return Of The Living Dead
Jason X

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Eraserhead
Dune
What's Up, Tiger Lily?
Tokyo Drifter
Branded to Kill
Akira
Urotsukidôji
Singapore Sling

Don't bother with the last two unless X-rated is OK.

If you want a good modern asian action/martial arts movie, check out Flash Point (2007). Yes its completely mindless but that's what makes it so fun and it has some of the best choreographed fight scenes I've seen in a long time.

Oldboy
Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai
The Limey
City of God

Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

feast 1,2,3
saw1,2,3,4,5

I've posted about double features before, but this post seems like a good excuse (as if I needed an excuse) to do it again:

Shaolin Soccer
Kung Fu Hustle

Kelly's Heroes
The Dirty Dozen

The Lion In Winter
A Man for All Seasons

Bringing Up Baby
Arsenic and Old Lace

Young Frankenstein
Son of Frankenstein
or
Young Frankenstein
Blazing Saddles

Some Like It Hot
Victor/Victoria

Enter the Dragon
Ong-Bak, Thai Warrior

Rosemary's Baby
The Omen

Yeah, I know. They're all old. But then so am I.
