Some qualifiers regarding my suggestions:

Yokai Monsters: 100 Monsters - fun monsters and nice atmosphere
Even the Wind Is Afraid - I'd guess this is the most "Takoma" of the films I rec'd
Witchfinder General - hard to predict if you'll like this one. I do.
The Sorcerers - psychedelic fun
Torture Chamber of Dr Sadism - this is one of my "5 stars 'cause it's foggy" things. Your mileage will no doubt vary
The Psychopath - crazy doll-collector lady

I have this thing where I recommend movies and then immediately panic when it appears that someone is actually heeding my recommendation. So the preceding is just meant to cover my butt in the event I've steered you to a stinker.

Homicidal (1961)

Interesting. I thought The Psychopath was the one where the guy at the gas station holds some people hostage, but as I'm typing this I'm realizing that movie is The Sadist or something like that.

I showed my students a clip of the original Godzilla today (yes, it was relevant to the lesson). At first they were all, "Oh, it's going to be so fake looking" and "I can never watch things in black and white."

Then after there was about a 10 minute Q&A session consisting of questions like "But how did they make him knock down the power lines?" "How did he step on the houses?" "How did they make it look like he was there with the little people?". "Why did his breath set the house on fire but when he breathed on the people it just killed them?"

They didn't realize it was a person in a costume and a medium sized set. They were also seemingly shocked to hear that nuclear weapons had been used on Japan in WW2.

Hours later, one of my students came up to me and said, "I have a question." I assumed it would be about our science work, instead she said, "Do you think Godzilla is supposed to be a dinosaur?".

I'm in this weird place where I feel like I want to watch a horror movie, but also a student brought a knife and a MACHETE to school yesterday, and several boys in my room have started making porn noises, and I don't have any emotional space for feeling a single negative thing. Are there horror movies that don't make you feel bad at all? No? They don't exist? Just checking.

This makes me happy

It made me very happy. And for a minute I was in horror-fan mode and wanted to show them the end of Curse of the Demon.

The poem we were reading was "Isla" by Victor Suarez.

I strongly second this.

Suspect's Reviews

Oh no!

With A Dark Song I just loved where they took the characters and the premise. The final act and where the characters ended up is something I would have never imagined. I also thought that the main character's journey was a fascinating look at the process of grieving.

The Unnaturals, 1969 is a fantastically camp Italian gothic horror movie about a psychic mother and her intense son making a couple of guy with a heavy conscience very sweaty. With some puzzling lesbian intrigue on the side. Don't know what that was about.

To celebrate Sleepaway Camp's 40th anniversary, Disney/Pixar is doing a remake!

I have tried (AND FAILED) to get you all interested in Dragula, but their guest judges for the first episode were Mike Flanagan and Felicia Rose.

Also, I know I'm a day late, but Happy Thanksgiving my lovely horror found-family. I am truly thankful for you.
