I am stunned Dead Space underwhelmed you. Stunned, I say! The only chink in the armor for me was that there was a fair amount of backtracking in the game, which actually makes more sense than most games, but isn't the most exciting way to go about things. Still, a minor complaint about what I consider to be one of the only games that actually attempted to create some next gen game play (getting rid of the HUD, strategic dismemberment system), instead of just next-gen graphics.

I was also underwhelmed by Dead Space. Stun! Stun, stun!

It's not often that I agree with the sarcomonster that is Yahtzee (well, I often agree with bits of his reviews) but his thoughts on Dead Space mirror mine completely.

It plays ok (and the zero gravity stuff is good) but I've seen it all done before a heck of a lot more interestingly. I lost all interest a couple of hours in and stuck Siren: Blood Curse into the machine instead. Now that's a much better survival horror game, I think, but I'm tired of the whole genre now. Maybe RE5 will liven it up a bit but I doubt it.

Link to Yahtzee's review which is really sweary

OK folks - Recommend some games! We are minutes away from completing Dead Space, and I completed the single player campaign in CoD4. We will need a new game soon! I am sure I will be playing plenty of multiplayer CoD, because it is completely addicting, something I blame the rank/perk system on, as I am usually sick of FPS online at this point, but I keep wanting to play.

I loved both games but now I need some more single player goodness!

I picked up Assassin's Creed (again) in a 2-for1 deal a couple of days back. It runs a lot better on the 360 than it did on the PS3, that's for sure, but yeah - it's as deep as a puddle. Fun for an hour or two but I'm bored with it again.

I'd recommend: Oblivion, Mass Effect, Eternal Sonata, GTA4 (they're all pretty cheap now, especially used)

Also: Fallout 3, Prince of Persia (like Assassin's Creed, it gets boring quickly but fun for a while - rent it), SoulCalibur 4/Virtua Fighter 5 (take your pick, the first's more flashy the second is more technical), Fable 2 (if you like dogs and bigamy) and maybe Lost Odyssey - it's the closest this current gen has got to a Final Fantasy game.

Fallout 3, Bioshock, Oblivion, Left 4 Dead.... Wait PS3 or 360? Gutar Hero: World Tour, Saints Row 2(which is so much more fun than GTA btw) Oblivion, Crackdown. Some are 360 exclusives. They only good exclusives I played on PS3 are LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. Do you have a Wii?

I'm downloading the Resident Evil 5 demo, gonna try that soon. I've been playing WoW lots too. I have many games I need to finish, including The Orange Box. I know, I'm a disgrace.

Just tried the Resi 5 demo, it's just to slow. I know it's a demo, but damn, they need to sort it. Shame there's no Wii remote for the 360, as using it would be much, much better. Like Resi 4: Wii Edition.

Yeah, I have CoD running on Multiplayer, which I will be playing for a long time, I think.

We decided on Oblivion (this is on 360, btw). We got home pretty late, and got sucked into the character mod stuff for about an hour. Well, I had to make my Dark Elf chick pretty and stuff!

A bit overwhelmed, as I only got to actually play for about 15 minutes, and I am of course wondering if I made the character well, etc. I think I have her using a blade, a bow and some random elemental magic, which her race excels at.

Should I stick with destruction magic, which seems sort of standard, or shall I move into the illusion stuff or summoning? The combat seemed pretty fun, I must say, even on the rusty sword lowest level.

I have yet to get outside; I am just following Patrick Stewart around in a cave.

Do you guys prefer the FP view or is it better to run TP?

Use the first person view. If you run around in third person it doesn't pull you into the game as much and you can miss smaller items that way.
Combat is nearly impossible in third person. At least for me.

What class are you? I typically use a sword and destruction magic, but I think you'll find the spell you use most is heal wounds.

Unsure on class, as it has just had me choose a race so far. I haven't finished the intro dungeon yet. We have a Dark Elf lady and I have been using Destruction Magic, Blade, Bow, and that Heal Wounds spell. I seem to sneak around a lot, too...

I don't have a Wii Newt!

You won't pick your class until further on in that level.

Just before you leave the sewers you'll be asked if you want to change any of your stats (including race, sex, specialisations, class etc) so back out of that particular menu and save your game. That way you can start again with a new character without having to replay what is essentially a tutorial level,

Dark Elves are great for any sort of sneaky warrior type - they're strong enough for weapon combat, can use magic and are strong against fire attacks (just wait until you're in an Oblivion realm and you'll see what I mean).

Here's the only site you'll need for Oblivion - http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion

Since I got my new TV I've been playing it again as an Imperial Scout character (I usually go custom class but this one seems pretty balanced) and am determined to get all the achievements on this play through. Been picking at them until now because I was already pretty familiar with the game before I got a 360.

1st person view is definitely the way to go, by the way, but 3rd is sometimes useful when you're sneaking because it allows you to see round walls to an extent.

Welcome to the human race...

In between getting challenged to rounds of Perfect Dark multiplayer by my brother, I've been making a somewhat half-hearted attempt to finish Turok: Dinosaur Hunter.

I think there's need for a sub-forum in the Misc Chat area dedicated solely to games. I mean heck, if TV and Music has one, why not us gamers?
