Sitting through Avatar in the cinema was torture for me. I'm sure a combination of the movie and the fact that I don't care for going to the movies anymore.

I though Avatar was quite good but not a masterpiece of cinema. I rate it as 7/10, much weaker than Terminator, T2 and Aliens, the three best films Cameron directed.

The main problem was the completely standard plot which reduced tension since I knew exactly what was going to happen. James Cameron implemented a standardized plot in the movie because it was a very expensive film (total production and distribution costs were of 550 million dollars) and hence he sought to minimize risks involved into making this film, so making the most conventional film plot possible was a way to prevent the film from having any chance of flooping, since the conventional way of making films is the way that evolved over the past 100 years that is sure to entertain the largest number of people.

Though film buffs with a more refined taste for films will not like Avatar that much because it its incredibly conventional structure.

I've seen five of them: The Ring The Mummy, The Big Lebowski, Shawshank Redemption, and Avatar. Enjoyed them all and definitely want to see Cloverfield, always thought it sounded really interesting and seeing it on this list makes me want to even more. I'll have to find it.

maybe you don't like fantasy films overall?

61. Casino

Although I prefer Goodfellas,I still think that this film is a bit in the shadow of it.Casino should be a great delight for crime fans - it is a fast-paced crime story, with one of the greatest duos (Pesci and De Niro) and an incredible performance by Sharon Stone.I found some scenes quite hilarous,so I don't think that it will bore you.

Agreed. Casino is often, and I've said this a few times before, unfavourably compared to Goodfellas.
It isn't Goodfellas though... it's a roaring crime/gangster story in its own right. Top movie. I rated it at 100% in my reviews as well.

Casino's a great film. I watched a documentary the just the other day about the events portrayed in the film.

What was it called? And how was it?

60. Lilja 4-ever

A Swedish film about a 16 year old Russian/Ukrainian girl who, because of her naiveness, gets involved in an illegal business. It is based on Lithuanian girl story.

It's not the most beautiful film visually but ,even if it's not special,it's a good drama.I liked most the whole setting and the lifestyle which is portrayed very well. This film looks very realistic not only in recreating Soviet Union "spirit" but in dialogues, music, values, view of life and relationships. If you're from a second world country,I believe that it will look very familiar.

Despite the fact that it cheats a bit and uses film to preach and show social problems,it is a heart-wrenching drama about two lost souls.

I much agree, almost the same way about it, Scorsese simply strutting his stuff, but an entirely different crime drama and story, brilliant'.'

Completely agree with every single thing said here. And although I haven't thought of it, I think you're right on the money with my feelings towards fantasy films. Pretty perceptive!

on the other hand it's hard not to compare them as they have same main actors, strong female role,"fast" plot, narration and characters are quite alike. But it doesn't make Casino a bad film.

59. Trainspotting

Trainspotting is one of my favorite drug movies, although I can't call it my favorite, maybe because it's a bit harsh at times. Many people argue whether Requiem For A Dream or Trainspotting is better and although I have placed Requiem higher,I believe that this drug drama is better in content. It doesn't only show that drugs are bad,it's not depressive from the very beginning and characters are better developed than in Requiem. It also has better intro.

This is also one of the films where I really enjoyed the music.

Urgh! Trainspotting.

I think the documentary was called Casino: The True Story. There's at least one more I know of, which is from a series called The Mafia's Greatest Hits and is about Anthony Spilotro, who Joe Pesci's character is based on.

Casino: The True Story
The Mafia's Greatest Hits
can't find them in IMDB,where did you see them?

Oh,and why you disliked Trainspotting?Just not your type or is there some objective reason why you think it's not good?

Trainspotting almost made my list too.
well, since I just checked out your post at your top movies thread,I think you will be pleased with the next film on my list.

58.The Usual Suspects

Probably the most unexpected ending in film and overall, one of the most just interesting crime movies ever.I like the cast, too.

57. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)

A great and captivating espionage drama based on one of the best spy writers,John Le Carre's novel.I also heard some rumors that this film was made in order to win some acting Oscars and even if it was,it still has a great cinematography, plot and cast.

The only bad thing about this film is that it is very difficult not to "lose plot".Story is quite complicated and events are going fast so I would suggest not to judge it from the first viewing. You should watch it a couple of times. But despite that,it is a good story, full of twists, interesting dialogues and I love that this film right from the beginning tells that there's a bad guy inside so you can try to figure out who it is,since it is only revealed in the end.

The cast is wonderful, too but that is subjective opinion because I'm a fan of Gary Oldman,Colin Firth and Mark Strong.I also enjoyed Tom Hardy's acting,so trust me,if you are a fan of those actors, this movie will be a great enjoyment for you.

Also,I loved how spectacular this film looks, the cold war era is done perfectly,I love the lights, the music, the colors - everything was so subtle and memorable.I think it is one of those films where you can just enjoy the view.

I would recommend it for crime/espionage fans who like clever stories and good acting. However,it is a bit slow but I believe it's one of the best crime/espionage films in the past 5 years.

Marvellous film, glad to find another fan.
