2014 Mofo Film Award - Nominations

Hello all,

Mr. Sparkle asked me to take over this for this year and I gladly accepted. I'm starting this thread a bit early so people know about it and can get their movie watching butt on. I figure I'd keep to the same categories, if anyone has any popular additions, throw them at me.

THE MOVIE FORUM FILM AWARDS.

Same as last year, the nominations begin now and the DEADLINE for the nominations will be MARCH 1st. After that, I will tally up the nominations and present to you your nominees for the 2014 MOFO Film Awards.

Last year it synched up with the Oscars on a lot of winners *Gravity*, I hope to see some variety this year.

You may nominate UP TO 5 FILMS PER CATEGORY. You don't NEED to hit 5, but no more. If you can only think of 3 worthy performances, or have only seen 3 films in total, then by all means, nominate those 3 films/performances.

Any questions, feel free to PM me.

PLEASE: Do NOT nominate in this thread. The art of surprise is what makes most of these things FUN. No problem in discussing films to nominate, but leave the nominations to the Private Messaging.

The categories are:

Best Film of The Year

Worst Film of the Year

Best Director of the Year

Best Actor of the Year

Best Actress of the Year

Best Supporting Actor of the Year

Best Supporting Actress of the Year

Best Screenplay of the Year

Best Animated Film of the Year

Biggest Surprise of the Year

Biggest Disappointment of the Year

Most Overrated Film of the Year

Most Memorable Scene of the Year

Best Trailer of the Year

Best Poster of the Year (if possible, describe which one)

Worst Poster of the Year (if possible, describe which one)

Best Cast of the Year

Breakout Performance of the Year

Best Score

Best Visual Effects

I'll be showcasing some of my horrid PHOTOSHOP skills to add to the thread and come awards time, present the MOFIE. (no good? think of a new one).

Get watchin'

Suspect's Reviews

Can't remember if I participated in this last year, but it's a cool idea. Films I've seen from this year:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Fury
Gone Girl
The Lego Movie
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Mr. Turner
Nightcrawler
Noah
Under The Skin (IMDB 2013)
X-Men: Days of Future Past

There's a chance I won't have seen Inherent Vice yet because it only comes out here in February... maybe you could postpone the deadline to March 1st (that's only 2 months in the new year) so people have a little more time to catch up?

Anyway, these are the films I've seen so far this year:

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Gone Girl
Boyhood
Interstellar
The One I Love
Edge of Tomorrow
Maps to the Stars
Nightcrawler
Space Station 76
The Lego Movie
22 Jump Street
Fury
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
Guardians of the Galaxy
Magic in the Moonlight
A Million Ways to Die in the West
Neighbors

P.S.

2014 means 2014 on IMDb, right?

Make a better place
I have few questions

Biggest Surprise of the Year & Biggest Disappointment of the Year, are we talking about movies or performances or maybe both?

what is Best Score? is it best movie overall or what is it? I'm not familiar with it.

i think we shoud use this list because otherwise stuff like the double isn't eligible, which is my favorite film from this year so far.
I agree with Inmate. The Double, Under The Skin, Only Lovers Left Alive, Ida, Blue Ruin, and some others would be left out if we follow IMDB.

Hmmm...Best CGI Performance of the Year? I don't know, I'm tired and thinking's not my strong suit when tired. Also not sure how many there would be. I can think of Andy Serkis as Caesar (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and...well, that's about it from me.

You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.
Nobody has any category suggestions?

I'm not sure what you're looking for but maybe something like best chase scene, best fight, best shootout, best hero, best villain, best on-screen couple, best quote, etc.?
