ahh, I missed the original post.

The topic title suggest listing the actors who currently make up your top 5 list, not listing 5 actors of 'current' or I would have requested timescales.

I like the "current" idea, because otherwise you'll just get all the big names. This one forces you to pick through people that are actually still doing stuff.

Dan Day Lewis and Leo DiCaprio instantly come to mind.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. I just mean that if you want a contemporary list its usually a good idea to specify some form of a timescale. Nicholson for example could vacate my list quit quickly if that was introduced.

He's still in stuff, but like barely anything. His heyday was in the 60s-80s.

Of course he is, but my list is obviously made up of individuals based on their performances. I cant even think what the last "good" performance was baring in mind too that I hated 'as good as it gets' so much I couldn't even appreciate any of the performances.
