How was the fire in Drunken Master 2 pulled off?

Yeah. Haven't you seen stunts before where a guy is on fire?

The first shot of fire is seen from next to Jackie. The enemy is in the background. The flame doesn't hit him. It just goes between the camera and the enemy. The next shot is from behind the enemy where he can be wearing flame retardant clothes and shows the flames on his back/shoulders. The next time Jackie spits the alcohol on him, the enemy has the flame retardant gloves completely covering his face. Once the alcohol is quickly burned out, the only flames are the ones that were on the back of his shoulders/arms - away from his face.

Yes, it's a dangerous stunt involving flames, but Jackie and his stuntmen have done other crazy stunts.

Would have been a lot fo special effects and prop work, but yeah, Chan's movies tend to have risky stunts involved.
The guy would have had fire protection... but Chan himself often never used protective gear etc... including the scene where he goes across hot coals, he actually did it for real and burned himself.

Given that the stunt guy who was set on fire was wearing protective clothing and fire-gel... it wouldn't surprise me if Chan did actually blow burning liquid from his own mouth to get the shot.
Jackie Chan always looks after his stunt team, but he's legendary for some of his own stunts being completely crazy.

Hong Kong action film buff.

Makes sense, thanks so much for the very in-detail explanation.
