This film then takes us on a Tarantino-like journey through scenes of Dean and Cindy's marriage, told out of sequence but still peeling the layers away of this decaying marriage which could not be held together by the sexual hit that ignited the relationship.

Those two people are played by Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, as Dean and Cindy.

What Blue Valentine does right is throw you into the worst part of a couple’s time together while they cling so viciously yet hopelessly on their past.
