Once we get over the fact that the heartless bitch Audrey just deserts Paul, the film focuses exclusively on the small population, but without conflict with the normal population, it was way too easy to forget that the small people were even small and the journey to an ending that had some legitimac....

Citizen Rules
The 'downsizing' also has an economic advantage as tiny people can sell off their assets and then have the buying power to live in luxury and wealth in new tiny town settlements.
