1993? group of teenagers lie down in the middle of a highway?

It was around 1993 or 1992. I was little but I remember seeing a commercial for it and specifically the scene where a group of teenagers lie down head to feat in the middle of the highway. I remember being terrified of it, and I also remember hearing on the news about a boy who tried to imitate this scene and got killed. Does anyone remember this?

After looking it up, I've learned that the scene in question was later removed from the movie and it's trailer.
