The Neverending Story

Sit Ubu Sit.... Good Dog
So this is the first that I have heard about this, but I am not surprised. Movie makers are all out of ideas and just remaking anything they can. But remaking The Neverending Story is just wrong.

If they remake this and use any CGI then it will kill the movie right there.

Can you imagine a CGI Falkor or Gmork, it just hurts to even imagine that.

In this article it does say that so far they have only secured the puppet rights so far, but IMDB has it listed for a 2014 release date so here's hoping they change there minds about remaking this great movie.

Like a lot of remakes, it really doesn't need to be retold. Sometimes it does generate attention on the original, which is fine in my book. I just can't imagine the modern special effects, as part of the charm of the original lies with the puppetry, creative sets, and grit.

I also doubt they'll include the scene with the horse in quick and being sucked in... God, that scene is devastating. Kids movies were absolutely brutal back in the 80s. This could explain why I'm so unbalanced today.

Standing in the Sunlight, Laughing
I absolutely loved the original. I saw it at the theater several times, and it was one of the first films I bought on DVD. But recent viewings don't really hold up, given the clunkiness of the effects and some of the pacing is deadly. I think it was great for the time, but didn't live up to the potential of the book. Looking forward to seeing what new eyes/hands can do with it.

What's next? Are they gonna remake Krull? Leave the classics alone.

Maybe it's just me but they should have left Race to Witch Mountain alone cause I thought they did a horrible job on the remake, but that's just my opinion.

Is this serious? Krull a classic? I just watched it this week for the first time since I was about nine and it's terrible. It's a disgusting rip-off of Star Wars and Conan the Barbarian with none of the charm or talent. Classic my butt.

Seconded. I can recite entire conversations from the film because I watched it so much when I was a kid but it's not a great film by any stretch of the imagination. The old school effects have a ton of charm and I miss those sorts of things, but the film is not great, or even sacred enough to not remake. Besides, I think it'll be bad because most kids movies these days are just bad.
