Just a general question, was the Luc Besson film, The Professional, based on another French film? If so please provide the title, and reference on IMDB.

I'm not sure it is based on another "French film" (perhaps you may mean BESSON'S own La Femme Nikita (1990) ) but the plot does show some similarities to:

JOHN CASSAVETES'
Gloria (1980)
