"American Pie 2"

I'm not sure I should post my likes in a thread where Pink Floyd is dissed not once but several times, but I cannot resist an opportunity to pay respect to my favorite bands and artists:

Tori Amos
PJ Harvey
Imogen Heap
Cure
James
Ani Difranco
Dave Matthews Band
Afghan Whigs

Just to name a few.

Has anyone heard the song "Ugly" by this white rapper named Bubba Sparxxx? It's AWESOME! Timbaland is the best producer on the planet.

I like most of your choices, budha girl. Except Dave Mthews. Eww.

Yeah, that's what I thought about DMB until I gave them a good listen. I became addicted to the band's tight grooves and versatile rhythms. There's a texture to their music that you don't find very often these days, and Dave's jive talk can put the blackest of souls into a funky good mood.

I liken DMB to the Grateful Dead: either you get them or you don't.

I also like the following bands/artists a lot (I have their CDs, so I don't need the mp3s):

The Byrds
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Eric Clapton
Jimi Hendrix
Radiohead
The Flaming Lips
Mercury Rev
U2
The Eagles
The Cranberries
.
.
.
and I'm sure there's more.

I can't believe there are people here who think The Beatles and Pink Floyd suck. The Beatles have had more great songs than any other band in the history of rock. Yeah, their early stuff (pre-Rubber Soul) wasn't all that great, but their later stuff (from Revolver to Abbey Road) was unmatched. As for Pink Floyd, well, I can almost understand that if you've only heard their later stuff (Gilmour era). But you can't tell me with a straight face that Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals were the output of a talentless band.

MJ's new album is out! Well, sort of. It comes out overseas on the 29th, and here in America on the 30th, but it's available on the Internet now (as of yesterday). I ordered it around the middle of yesterday, so I should have it early next week...sooner than most, woohoo. Can't wait. jrs: you order it yet? MJExclusive.com is the site, I believe.

Pardon me for asking..and I'm really not trying to insult you...

but what is the appeal to this guy?

He's a freak, a possible pedophile, and the only talent he's ever had is his dancing ability...

Holy crap boy, you need a smackin' -- Pink Floyd beats the hell out of ODB and Blink 182. The Wall is a POWERFUL album, but good music even with the dramatic elements removed from it. Blink 182 is goofy crap that occasionally sounds okay. ODB is a walking gimmick. I can respect good R&B/Rap, but there's a lot of crap out there.
Holy s**t. No doubt. The Wall and The Final Cut (underated) are two of the most powerfully emotional albums ever made. In fact, Obscurred By Clouds, or even something like Saucerfull of Secrets totally annihilates most of the garbage out there today...

Originators??

Anthrax ...
"I'm the Man"

Beastie Boys
"Fight for your Right to Party"

I don't really care if he's a freak, because his music is amazing. Great, great music. "Superfly Sister," "Who Is It," and "Stranger in Moscow" are a few of my favorites. Anyway, please don't post 4 times in a row...consolidate.

How?

The reason why I posted four times in a row is because I was responding to four seperate responses.... I'm not sure how to do multiple quotes from other users in one response..

Don't cry, salvation is nigh! When replying, look for the text "vB Code" on the left..next to it is a link that says "help" -- click on that, and look for the part on quotes. 'Tis very easy.

Now With Moveable Parts
I just gotta say...I boogied down so hard to old MJ tracks this weekend at my sister's 20th birthday party. Nothing makes me wanna get all funky and dirty like Billy Jean, Bad, Thriller, P.Y.T, The Way You Make Me Feel...all the old stuff. " I wanna rock with you..."

Oh yeah...great stuff...oddly enough, though, most of my favorite MJ songs are some of his less famous tracks...like "Superfly Sister," "Who Is It," "Stranger in Moscow," and a lot of the tracks on his new album, "Invincible." It's a great album...I dig around 10-11 of the 16 tracks, which is pretty high for most albums.

Maybe I just listened to his big hits way too many times to stay nuts about them...I overdosed, as my friend likes to say.

I'm lovin' the classics personally... Rock With You, Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, Beat It. My personal favorite song with the Jackson magic is I Want You Back.

I was watching MTVX today and the played Dreams by Van Halen and immediately followed it with The Clash. I was buzzed the rest of the day.

Now With Moveable Parts
I was listening to the radio the other day and caught AC/DC's Shook Me All Night Long, then Rolling Stones Sympathy for the Devil, followed by Def Leopard's Poor Some Sugar on Me. LOL. I was rockin' my @ss off.LOL.

OK, this is going to be an ongoing thing for me, but I'm going to post all the music that I absolutely love. I've got a pretty wide range of tastes, so bear with me.

U2 - Everything except Rattle & Hum and Zooropa, but I'm thinking specifically of The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, and War.

Tricky - Maxinquaye

Who's Next by the Who

John Lennon's Imagine album

Underworld singles - Born Slippy NUXX, Pearl's Girl, Reverend Al Green, etc. I love them all.

Every New Order and Joy Division album

Moby - everything he's done, his early house stuff is INSANE. I love all of his music.

Rage Against The Machine - everything they did was awesome

Cactus Patch - I was introduced to them by my friends Hallie and Chelsea. They rock.

The Roots - the best group in hip hop history, every one of their albums is absolutely amazing, Black Thought puts clown rappers to rest. And they're from Philly.

The Clash

Weezer - the blue album, and some songs off of the green.

Minor Threat - actually, all of the Dischord stuff

Outkast - ATliens, Aquemini, Stankonia

Sappy love ballads, preferably by men with high voices who sound like they're going to cry

The Piano Man by Billy Joel

Elton John. Elton John. Elton John. Elton John.

All of the Radiohead albums except Amnesiac

Blink 182 - everything but Cheshire Cat...It's not punk, but it's so...sweet.

All the Bjork, Portishead, Massive Attack, and Chemical Brothers albums

Loud house

Incubus - man I love these guys. There's not enough good rock like this these days.

Early James Brown

Richard D. James album and Come to Daddy EP by Aphex Twin

Esoteric - this guy amazes me

The first Basement Jaxx album

Toxicity by System of a Down

Timbaland - every song he's ever produced. The Mozart of our times.

Early Wu Tang, particularly Enter the Wu, Cuban Linx, and Liquid Swords

Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Company Flow, Pharoahe Monch - 1990s underground New York rappers...all of their early singles, 1995-1999

Stevie Wonder, until the 80's

Bo Diddly

Jefferson Airplane (before they became Jefferson Starship)

Johnny Cash - especially Ring of Fire

The Pixies - Surfer Rosa, now and forever one of the most overlooked albums...

Hendrix

Buddy Holly

It Takes a Nation... and Fear of a Black Planet by Public Enemy

AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted and Death Certificate by Ice Cube

Beastie Boys - I like most of their stuff, although that early Licensed to Ill stuff is cutting it close. For perspective, I think Hello Nasty is their best album.

Tool - every one of their albums. Depressing and beautiful and maddening and scary all at once.

....My list will continue later. I could talk about my favorites for days and days and days.
