I think both the 50s and 70s were stronger movie decades for sure.

I'm looking forward to Lawrence of Arabia because it's a David Lean film and Bridge on the River Kwai is a masterpiece. Maybe Lawrence won't stack up we'll see.

Ahhhh, honestly, I forgot about it while making the list. Even though, I would still probably keep it the same - Point Blank (1967) would definitely make a continuation of the list.

Top 10 (not in order)

The Birds
Village of the Damned
Quatermass and the Pit
Chimes at Midnight
Lolita
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
So lange Leben in mir ist
Rosemary's Baby
The Flight of the Phoenix

The Best of the Best are always difficult because you leave out dozens of films you love to death. However, if push comes to shove...

1. Elmer Gantry
2. Midnight Cowboy
3. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
4. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
5. War and Peace (Sergei Bondarchuk)
6. Alfie
7. Z
8. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
9. My Fair Lady
10. West Side Story

The most-perfect film which didn't make the list (for shame) amd hasn't been mentioned yet: The Innocents.

I love your inclusion of War and Peace on your list; I love that movie(s).

For the 1960's, I would go with War and Peace, 2001, The Graduate, Lawrence of Arabia and (although this may be an unpopular choice) Oliver!.
