His last film he directed, The Caine Mutiny Court Martial (remake of the Bogart film which itself is decent) is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month.
Not quite. The 1954 film The Caine Mutiny starting Bogart as Captain Queeg is adapted from Herman Wouk's Pulitzer Prize winning novel. Wouk adapted his own novel into a play, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, which was a hit on Broadway starring Henry Fonda as Barney Greenwald, the part played by José Ferrer in the film. The play is what Friedkin adapted, not the novel. Robert Altman adapted the play in a 1988 made-for-TV production starring Eric Bogosian as Greenwald, Jeff Daniels as Maryk, and Brad Davis as Queeg.

Friedkin’s production stars Jason Clarke as Greenwald and Kiefer Sutherland as Queeg.
