But since other people are listing well-known films, I'll go ahead and say The Terminator and Seven.
Ain't this the opposite purpose of this thread though?

I'm personally watching out for all recommendations by others that I haven't heard of.... Tie me up Tie me down?

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring

If you've never seen a Korean movie or aren't familiar with Kim Ki-Duk, this would be a good place to start. It's a beautiful movie and I mean that in the truest sense of the word. In terms of capturing both the beauty of nature and of people this movie has few equals. The story takes place entirely on this lonely lake on which a single house floats and is occupied by one or two monks at a time. The plot chronicles the entire spiritual life of one man from his beginning as a toddler to-- well, you'll just have to watch it. I've shown this flick to as many people as I could and I've only heard positive things back from them.

All the Real Girls

David Gordon Green who's most successful film to date is NOW Pineapple Express started out his career making very small and very poignant films sought to tell the stories of various peoples who live quietly in the rural parts of America. They're almost a myth for those of us that have spent our entire lives living in the big city. Green breaks down the preconceptions we may have had about the south and the people who live there and helps tell their story. Now, I could recommend any of his earlier movies. This, George Washington (2000), or Undertow, but All the Real Girls was the one that touched me the most because it was the most relevant to me. It tells the story of a young man in a very small town who's gotten to know most of the girls there in a very intimate manner. All except one. His best friend's sister. In his pursuit of the girl he experiences things that most man eventually feels but rarely is the transfer from real life to the screen this accurate and touching.

I personally like George Washington the best, but All the Real Girls and Undertow receive high marks from me as well.

Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

Three Resurrected Drunkards
Even Dwarfs Started Small
Sherlock Jr.

The first two to mess with people, the third because I think everyone would enjoy that movie. Anyone who can't is a heartless monster.

-ps: did this ever end up on your list thread, mark?
