Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
I don't get that. Besides that, I don't get where all the youngsters get all the money to buy all their DVDs. Have you read my recent post where I mentioned that my daughter Sarah is going to the USC School of Cinematic Arts and that it costs $53,000 a year? GULP.

I would suggest "The Soloist".

This is a great true to life film
I just read its review . . .

He's called Tequila. He's a tough cop.
Look at the member's who have most of the lists completed (mark f, harry lime, holden pike) and IMMEDIATELY see the movies on their top 10 lists. Quality can pretty much be guarenteed.

Also, I reccomend just going through AFI's top 100 movie list if you want a rounded and prolific list of movies to watch. Those movies are the classics and mostly the best of American cinema. Unlike Transformers

Also, based on what you favorite movie's are and what you have seen in the lists, prepare for a shock when watching 2001. You'll either turn it off or have a revelation on what movies can be. Truthfully, I'm excited to see your reaction.

Jerry Shaw, you have been activated.

I don't think i've ever turned a movie off, even if it was really bad. Hopefully i will enjoy it.

As I said you need patience, perhaps subtitles on and think to yourself how good the visual effects are when it was created 41 years ago.

The Elected Movie Eliminator
I'm sure I'll be fine without Subtitles. I've watched some slow movies before.
Whatever, but when I first saw it -- it was rather slow and boring, but then I read every word of the subtitles and understood (and enjoyed) much more.

Okay...here are mine:

West Side Story

Wizard of Oz

Lawrence of Arabia

Dr. Zhivago

Sound of Music

Endless Summer

French Connection

State of Play

Duplicity

Slumdog Millionaire

Schindler's List
