Songs That "Get" You

Tools

I'm sure you all know what I'm referring to; songs that get to you reliably over time for one reason or another. These come to mind for me...
  • Semisonic's Closing Time (just something about the chorus)
  • Aerosmith's I Don't Want to Miss a Thing
  • Newboys' Going Public
  • Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderul World
  • Mazzy Star's Fade Into You (badly)
  • Aaron Neville's Ava Maria
  • Seal's Kiss From A Rose
  • Van Morrison's Someone Like You
  • Charlotte Church's rendition of Amazing Grace
  • The Love Medley from Moulin Rouge!
  • Etta James' At Last
Most of those are capable of getting the better of me.

Oh my goodness I never would've guessed it!

wait a minute.. these are songs we Like and they get to us meaning we connect... or songs that get us meaning they are in our heads all day....

I am hoping it is the first one. If so....
  • Etta James- At Last
  • Jennifer Holiday- And I am Telling You
  • Pink- Misery
to name a few...

if its the latter:
  • Dirty Vegas- Days go by
I cant think of anything else right now... I'll edit later...

The first one; songs that "get" to you emotionally in some way. Glad to hear we've got another Etta fan around here. That song just oozes with feeling...it's one of my favorites.

Dirty Vegas- Days go by
You said it...never heard the song until I saw that Volkswagon commercial, but it's incredibly addictive.

I really like that song Complicated too, though I dont know who sings it.. I find myself turnin up the radio everytime its on... though the bass about kills my subs when i get REAL into it... LOL...

That Michelle Branch girl, I like her MUCH too....

You know who Jennifer Holiday is?

No...sounds familiar though. Complicated rings a bell, too. How does it go?

Oh, and for future reference, it's better to consolidate all comments to a single post.

By the way; love the 80s hair you've got in that picture!

I'm not old, you're just 12.
I'm sure you all are going to laugh at me when I say this, but the one song that totally destroys me, that I connect with almost totally, leaves me a complete emotional wreck, etc..., is

"Stay together for the kids" by Blink 182

I grew up in a house like the one in that song, so it actually hurts to listen to it. I think that's why I love it so much.

Beware the Moon
Probably one of the more prominent ones that stick out would have to be Who wants to live forever by Queen.

There's no time for us,
There's no place for us,
What is this thing that builds our dreams,
yet slips away from us.

Who wants to live forever,
Who wants to live forever,
There's no chance for us,
It's all decided for us,
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us.

Who wants to live forever,
Who dares to love forever,
When love must die.

But touch my tears with your lips,
Touch my world with your fingertips,
And we can have forever,
And we can love forever,
Forever is our today,

Who wants to live forever,
Who wants to live forever,
Forever is our today,
Who waits forever anyway?

I see the way your acting like your somebody else gets me frustrated
Lifes like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break and you take what you get and you turn it into honestly promise me im never gonna find you fakin

You come over unannounced
dressed up like your somethin else

all your preppy clothes
you know your not foolin anyone
when youve become

Somebody else round everyone else
Watchin your back like you cant relax
trying to be cool you look like a fool to me
Tell me

Why you have to go and make things so complicated
I see the way your acting like your somebody else gets me frustrated
Lifes like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break and you take what you get and you turn it into honestly promise me im never gonna find you fakin

Amen, my brother. That song and "One Year of Love" are great. Gotta love Queen, all 'round. The Highlander soundtrack has some of their best work, although by no means all of it.

Right now the song that gets me the most is "Left and Leaving" by the Weakerthans. Beautiful, heartwrenching, and so real you could almost touch it. I'd post the lyrics, but they wouldn't work without the music and the vocals.

Pretty much anything by Creed, and Seven Mary Three-Cumbersome.

P.s. Avril Lavigne sings Complicated. I love that song too. It gets all stuck in your head if you hear it a couple times though.

Anything by Britney, Christina, or anyone else that has just come out(except for Mandy Moore, she isn't annoying)
Sheryl Crow-remake of songs that she does
Puff Daddy-his remakes of songs( i wish people would leave some certain songs alone!!)
When radio stations play the same song twice within one hour, or maybe right after they played it for the first time.
Backstreet boys and Nsync-Their songs suck!!
spice girls-anything by them
i am not thinking right now, but i am sure if i heard the song i would say i like it or not!

Umm, are you sure we're talking about the same thing? I'm not referring to songs you like...but rather, songs that you have some sort of emotional response to reliably, time and again.

Get Low, Get Low, Get Low
I get it now, it wasn't clear to me at first but now i understand it. Like i said, we all aren't perfect YODA!!

"Brick," by Ben Folds Five, always gets me. The "Hills Like White Elephants" of songs.

The Long and Winding Road by the Beatles. I listed to that on the day of my Mothers funeral last year. Now if I even hear 10 seconds of it, well it wrings my heart.
Amazing Grace will almost always bring a tear to my eye. Danny Boy will give me goose bumps if its sung by an Irish tenor. My ex-wife really loved country music, I always detested it. However, now it just makes me sad to hear it. I avoid it at all costs. Imagine makes me sad because I always adored John Lennons music, and it reminds me of the day he was murdered. I watched it on the news, all those people crying, and my Uncle right next to me bawling his head off. Tears in Heaven...
I'm sure there are more, but those are upfront in my mind.

I've got a splitting headache
I will survive??-Greatful Dead, I think you're thinking of "Touch of Grey" - Grateful Dead, yeah, I don't think that highly of that song either.
