Oldboy

This question bears a striking similarity to most of the questions you ask about movies and their plots. The common theme is an expectation that these films should inhabit the real world. But many do not, and do not have to, and movies in general would be much poorer if filmmakers acted as if they did.

It can be reasonable to question the plausibility of the events in a movie, but only if something happens that is out of step with the world on display, with the movie's internal logic. In Oldboy, we find out almost immediately that we're operating in a heightened reality, where absurd things like being kidnapped and locked in a room and fed dumplings for years on end are somehow feasible. At that point, you either accept the world that's being offered by the filmmaker, or not.
