Probably pretty pointless to make a thread about this since it's such a long list, but i think it's the best list because it's not just one sites opinion but an aggregate of most lists that are released and it's so extensive. It's impossible to copy and paste because of the way it's set up and no way am i typing out a 1000 films so here it is - http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1...ilms_table.php

thx camo. It seems i'd seen 109 by far. I just thought it was the decalogue type of thing, but it look different case with the wire, which is long series and i guess never get theatrical release

One last thing haha, last years Top 1000 of the 21st Century, i'll add the 2018 one to this thread when it's released at the end of this month - http://www.theyshootpictures.com/21s...ilms_table.php

Personally i find that one more interesting because it changes more and it's generally more well known what the most acclaimed films of all time are. Clearly there's a bias towards earlier films, that's simply because they have been out longer so they've been on more lists. The biggest surprise to me is Brokeback Mountain in the top ten, i knew it was acclaimed but i didn't think that much. Wonder when that top three will finally be broken, they are basically the default best films of the 21st Century at this point.

Letterboxd - https://letterboxd.com/peacefulanarc...ont-they-21st/ I've seen 378/1000

Brokeback also pretty high climbed last year as i remember(in the all time list) in top 500
Yep 28 to 10, it tells you where they all were on the 2016 list. Don't think In The Mood For Love, Mulholland Drive or Yi Yi have shifted since it started. Haven't seen Yi Yi and i love the other two but it is getting a bit dull seeing them first on every list, same with Citizen Kane and Vertigo on the all time ones. The top ten in the 2018 one barely changed, it was the same ten films just in a different order. That's why i prefer the 21st Century one that list changes more dramatically.

Missed this. All TSPDT do is compile lists, they would have included any tv shows that were included as they don't add their on input, that's why i think it's the best list. I'm sure the people who do it don't agree with The Wire included, Twin Peaks: The Return will no doubt be on the 21st Century list this year since it was second on the BFI list and on a few others.

i pretty recommended yi yi, really great film should be the best from that top 50 imo. Only i remember we agreed about antonioni which main influence for edward yang

I think it need the years or likely decades more to see some dramatic change from the summary not like 21st. If the maker still updating it tho' xD.

Just checked 21st letterboxd, seen 249 by far

Yeah, i'm planning on getting into his work. Got A Brighter Summer Day ready to watch and i'll probably follow that up with Yi Yi. The length is all that's holding me back right now.

ah yeah, that should explain it . the reason of the original lister not the compiler

yet for a brighter summer day, guess cant be soon. I'd seen his earliest, the terrorizers, which underwhelmed in compared of yi yi, but still solid and also the shortest one.

He only has seven films, pretty crazy. He also scored some of his films: Taipei Story, think others as well. Sounds like an interesting dude, looking forward to getting into him.

I will probably further check the lists later, but thanks for the compilations.

Numbers:
-43 from the top50.
-442 from the top1000.
-179 from the 1001-2000 positions.
-272 from the 20th Century list.

Well... not that bad. I'm honestly looking forward a lot to the rest of this huge list, despite the occasional disagreements. As seen from the top250 directors list: Jean Vigo is the biggest bluff to ever be mythicized and I can't help but feel that I should be a lot more offended than I am about Terrence Malick being 44 spots above Hayao Miyazaki. The issue of animation at these lists is so much of a dead horse that I'm starting to accept it but there is not a single one in the top200, 15 in the top1000, 38 in the entirety of the top2000. And 39 in the top1000 of the 20th Century may look more reasonable but it's still a very ridiculous amount for how culturally relevant this side of the industry has become.

Whatever, it looks cool and solid and there's so much stuff I want to watch.

Jean Vigo is the biggest bluff to ever be mythicized
Agreed, dude made only one feature film. L'Atalante is all i've seen, liked it well enough and i think it's a shame he died so young as he could have done some great stuff, but i didn't think it was as good as its reputation and i think his early death plays into it.

Weird is relative.
Do they have these lists on IMDb? That's where I rate everything.
