I say Jedi was the first film with THX (since it's not Empire).

And I suspect the DVD answer may well be another one of those trick questions where there were several THX titles released at the same time. (But that's just a guess again).

Jedi was the first THX film in theaters. When the film opened there were only two THX theaters in the country and Jedi opened on both of them 15 minutes before opening at any other theater nationwide.

DVD Hint: This one DVD was released in 1997 by Warner Brothers.
