How many movies have you seen?

Minio to rest of us:

HEI guys.

I've seen 3100 excluding shorts and (most) TV shows. There are a couple miniseries with film releases I included like Dinotopia and When the Levees Broke. At this point, and now that I know I can use my autism to hyperfocus on and write reviews on two movies at once, Minio, my output will be much quicker.

At 28 years old, I don't think that's too bad. Admittedly, I've slacked a lot in adulthood. In high school, I used to watch 300 movies a year, but, now, I am lucky to see one-hundred. I do play videogames and read, so I have other things I'm spending time on too, I suppose.
I'm of the same age and wonder if I grow a sudden love for Videogames at a phase of my life... I really want to give it a try, when I find the time. Do you have suggestions for a newbie in 2024?

2,732 logged on Letterboxd, but there are probably dozens that I watched/rented during the 80s and 90s that I have no recollection of.

@Mr Minio's is the equivalent of 1 movie a day for 52 years.

39 years.

14394 / 365.25 (add the .25 to account for leap years) = 39.408
He said 19,053 though not 14,394.
I hope your self proclaimed multi-tasking is better than your uni-tasking.

3,100 +

about 48 I consider elite.
Let's have them then!!

There's no reason for you to get snarky. I went to his letterboxd page right before posting this, so I had a reason for saying it.

Wow!!!!!

Will @Mr Minio have an explanation??!!!!!!!!

I haven't rated everything I watched on Letterboxd. Mostly missing about 5,000 shorts tho.

Shorts explains it. When I put together my list of every movie I've ever seen, there was no way I was going back on the all the Looney Tunes, Popeye, Tom and Jerry, Woody Woodpecker and Disney skits from way back when, so I decided "no short films on my list." I'll still rate them, and box sets, but I only rely on my feature-films list when I discuss how many I've seen, because I view skits and serials to essentially be pre-TV TV shows.

What was your process for retrospectively listing every film you have ever seen?

Repeating this. But yes. This exact quote. You have Dwight Schrute to thank for me even being on MoFo in the first place, let alone Letterboxd. I was curious about how many I'd seen, spent about a week taking some free time to go down lists of movies via distributor, and totaled them. I decided to rank them afterwards. It was really his quote that lead me to get serious about cinema, starting with Chinatown and Sunset Blvd., which turned me into a "cinephile" instantly.

The Guy Who Sees Movies
GOK. Some years back, I used to keep a spreadsheet of movies I saw, with ratings, dates and comments, but that neglected the ones I saw before the list. I was never sure whether to add movies that I quit halfway through. One week, I realized that I'd forgotten my data entry and realized that the world didn't end, so the Movie List did instead.

I'll take an educated guess at 8,000. That's good enough.
