You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.
What is your number 1 favorite movie soundtrack of the 80's, MoFo's?
The Jazz Singer (1980)
To be honest with you, that one completely slipped my mind. I'll have to place it at number 16.

I didn't even have to think about it. I saw the movie The Jazz Singer in the theater when it came out, but I didn't even know who Neil Diamond was when I saw the movie. My friend and I had a deal back then that every Saturday, we would take turns choosing what movie to see, and she wanted to see that movie, but I had no interest in it. When the movie was over, we went straight to Sam Goody to buy the soundtrack, and Neil Diamond has been one of my favorite singers ever since then.

Another great soundtrack from the 80's that probably didn't make your list is my #2 choice.

When Harry Met Sally... (1989). Harry Connick, Jr. is another one of my favorite singers.

I watched Jazz Singer several times when I was young. My parents were fans of the movie and Neil Diamond. Mind you, most of the music I listened to as a child and grew up loving were what my parents used to listen to at home or in the car.

I listened to a lot of the music my parents listened to, stuff like Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Steve Lawrence, Dean Marin, Broadway showtunes, etc., which is probably why I never really got into rock music.

Save the Texas Prairie Chicken
Semi-long post ahead. First, favorite songs.

The Karate Kid
You're the Best
Young Hearts

Vision Quest
Shout To The Top
Crazy For You

Purple Rain
I Would Die 4 U
The Beautiful Ones
But I have to give a bonus song to this soundtrack and say:
When Doves Cry
"Let's Go Crazy" is incredibly good, too, though.

For top 1980's soundtracks, "Purple Rain" would probably be my #2. My #1 just happens to be the second choice of gbg's:
When Harry Met Sally... (1989)

It was ridiculous because I had this HUGE crush on Harry Connick, Jr. right then, too.

I will never deny my love for Neil Diamond. And my favorite of his from "The Jazz Singer" is right here:

It is interesting that you guys say that because in my house, the music was all over the place. It seemed that everyone had their "main" musical taste (as a little kid I was so obsessed with classical and at night I had to sleep with the station on that played the "fancy" music ). So, that was 8 people in my house. It varied from, as I said, classical to showtunes to classic rock 'n roll to R&B to pop to rap and so on and so forth. And what is interesting is that even though each person had a "main" taste, everybody seemed to listen to the music that everyone else in the house was listening to, too. That included my parents (but my mother more than my father).

Anyway, as long as we are on the topic of movie soundtracks, and as it has just been mentioned, I just want to randomly say that I still own my "I Love The Karate Kid" bookmark. Except the "love" is replaced with a big red heart. Ah, to be a kid again....
