Top 5 Lists

I thought Forrest Gump was a great movie. And much respect for pointing out The Apostle.

Concerning Morgan Freeman:
Watch Kiss the Girls and Seven (which are both good movies), and then watch The Shawshank Redemption, and tell me he's not one of the best. He's still. No actors stand still, because it's insanely hard to do on film. Morgan Freeman does.

Kevin Bacon, acting problems aside, is hung like a yeti.

Oh, and Steve: MAGNOLIA is waaay better than THREE KINGS (which I did really enjoy) and I know why you thought BEING JOHN MALKOVICH was '99's best, but I still think MAGNOLIA was superior. And, Morgan Freeman? C'mon. KISS THE GIRLS?
If you don't like me list, make your own. Thats why I started the thread.

And, Commish: How about Kubrick took satire to another level by making it bleak and dark? In that sense, he was a real maverick. Well, he was a real maverick in any sense, really. He had a vision, and it had a lot of dark imagery, so you shouldn't have expected a light, frolicsome romp through the sunshine on a sunny Michigan afternoon.
I don't expect it all to be goody-goody, but I'm basically convinced that he's critically acclaimed simply because he's one of the few directors to make bleak, fairly depressing stories. Obviously his fans arn't going to agree.

Dude?!? Who LIKED Air Force One, besides you? And Forrest Gump, albeit good, is way overrated. It's not even Tom Hanks' best performance. I thought he was much more extraordinary in PHILADELPHIA. And don't tell me that I'm half-right - SAVING PRIVATE RYAN is NOT a good movie!
Ahem: 11,639 votes, a 6.5 average (which means on the whole, they consider it good) for Air Force One:
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0118571

Also, Leornard Maltin has it listed as one of his "Super 35", and gave it 3 out of 4 stars. Ebert gave it a slightly above average 2.5 out of 4. EDIT: It made over $170 million in the US alone, as well. Seems to me many people thing of it as a good movie.

Forrest Gump is in no way overrated. It is sickingly clever, well edited, and makes use of everything to draw you into it's world. It's simplistic without being boring, and funny without being a comedy. It's dramatic without being a drama. It is an amazing all-around movie with an incredibly widespread appeal.

Hear, Hear. (sp?) It's a great movie.

Although, it did beat Shawshank and Pulp Fiction for best picture. Now that, TWT, is BLASPHEMY.

I have not bothered to sit down and watch all of Pulp Fiction...so we'll see. I can't choose between Forrest Gump and Shawshank -- that's all about personal preference. Some people prefer certain genres.

I ain't gettin' in no fryer!
I can't see why you don't like Gladiator Steve? It's a good movie with a good story what's so bad about it that you think Scott deserves to be labeled the biggest hack? It's a lot better than Air Force One or some of the crap you must like. If anybody finds that Traffic is one of the best movies ever made they need to be dragged into the street and shot for that.

Top 5 like it or not, in no particular order:

1. Kubrick's 2001
2. Gladiator
3. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
4. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
5. The Patriot

That's how i see it anyways

well shoot me, b/c that movie is an action bore, replete with Roman cliches and Joaquin nonsense. I think I'll give it a...thumbs down. Or rather, I've decided to rate things with other fingers, considering that Ebert (and the movies?) have copyrighted the motion of a particular digit. I give this flick one and a half birds up.

And, I think the one really deserving a nice shoot-down is ANYONE who deigns LIKE The Patriot AT ALL!

Oh, and Commish: When did 6.5 out of 10 (that would be a 65%, if I have gone through my mathematics courses correctly...) ever equal anything more than a really poor D? Were your parents happy if you got a 6.5 out of 10 on a test? Were you happy? Well, if you were, then that speaks volumes. Sheer volumes.

And concerning Forrest Gump: I never said it was not a good movie, I only said that it was overrated. Not as overrated as, say, GLADIATOR. It was good, just not fantastic. And it was witty, true, but not "sickeningly" (not a word...) so.

Now I've read some wickedly written posts...

I say it was sickingly witty. Sorry.

A "D"? This is not a grade school test. Those are different standards altogether. If I were to follow that logic, I would point out that getting on base 65% of the time makes you a helluva baseball player, or that 65% is a pretty good approval rating for a President...so why not for a movie as well?

Sheer volumes -- very funny, and quite an athletic jump to an outrageous conclusion. If you need to resort to trying to make very uneducated guesses as to my wortk ethic, then the rest of your argument may not be so solid.

If you rate a movie from 1 through 10, a 5 is average almost by definition, and a 6.5 is above average -- which can be called good. You asked if there was ANYONE else who liked it...and I'm saying that if the majority of over ELEVEN-THOUSAND people gave it a 6.5, then yeah, plenty of people did. There is also, of course, the ratings I mentioned and it's box office numbers.

Hey, you're entitled to your opinion, but in the case of Air Force One, you're being a bit unreasonable: I am not in the minority here.

I ain't gettin' in no fryer!
Ok, so you didn't like some of the charecters..you have to admit some of the shots were good. I mean this is a good movie when you think of it cinematic wise. Gladiator is a good movie when you think of it in that aspect...the opening battle alone is done well.

In Soviet America, you sue MPAA!

Top 5 Best sex scenes that come to mind as of now:

Out of Sight
Two Girls and a Guy
Last Tango in Paris - pretty much the whole movie
Being John Malkovich - Catherine Keener and John Cusack, via John Malkovich
A Clockwork Orange - Alex's shenanigans set to the William Tell Overture played 5 times too fast

Shameful Steve. Shameful. I expected better from you.

You left out Wild Things! What is wrong with you?!?! Your not 16! I swear your a 50 year old man, who for some odd reason is posing as a high school student...

As for Kevin Bacon. What is wrong with you! Kevin Bacon is a fine actor. He makes every role perfect. Name one character he played where he didn't fit the part?? Glad to know that you noticed how "hung" he is Steve! 50 year old I say!!!

Forrest Gump was a great movie. Not overrated at all. No one talks about that movie anymore, and it deserves the talk. If anything, it's underrated.

Small Spoiler below:
Air Force One was a good movie. It made you feel good. How can you not get a great feeling when that pilot took the missle??

oh and just gotta say, I love the way Commish always has some sort of resource to back him self up. Always makes me laugh.

Latest Movie Review(s): Too lazy to keep this up to date. New reviews every week.

Hahahahahaha. I have to. Don't you see how damn weak I'd look if I didn't? It'd just be my opinion...and opinions get pretty old after awhile.

50 year old man -- that cracks me up so bad. Oh, and I should have gone ahead and made that bet I was thinking of: that you would mention Wild Things in response to Steve's list. Man, I saw that coming a mile away.

And yeah, the thing with the jet was very dramatic. Definintely makes you think about things a bit.

Im not a 50 year old man! Have you ever seen any of the sex scenes on my list? They're madness, with the exception of Out of Sight, which is just sexy as hell. The Wild things scene is a good one too, but I think you're offended because, in the words of TWT, you've got a serious Denise Richards jones . Actually, now that I think about it, yeah, I guess I'll replace the one in Being John Malkovich with that one. Whatever.

Regardless, you didn't make a top 5 sex scenes, so there you go. Make your own! Come on, this is a healthy thread!

Kevin Bacon - what was he in? Flashdance or something? Dirty Dancing? The man can't act. Hollow Man? Please. Stir of Echoes? Please. He's always just mugging, the only reason he's a star is because he looks like one and he's got quite the endowment.

TWT, kick him out!!!

You've got some 'splainin to do, son.

I think he is messing around...I wouldn't be surprised if johnidiot was one of my brothers under a fake username, just trying to tick people off. You'll notice that he insulted things many of us SPECIFICALLY said we liked. Probably no one of consequence...hey, whatever.
