Aliens vs. Predator

I'm not sure if there's a thread about this already

Here's a short summary of what to expect from the film which has been revealed to take place in the present day - "It seems that structures which pre-date the pyramid civilizations of Egypt and the Americas have been discovered far beneath the Antarctic icecap by satellites. So to explore this finding billionaire Weyland assembles a drill team, specialists in Aztec and Egyptian archaeology, and an environmental scientist. Once inside the pyramids, the group discover disturbing remains including piles of human skeletons with holes in the chest (from Alien "chest-bursters"), and fossilized Alien "face huggers", seems that the temple was either built or infested by Aliens in Earth's distant past. The script pages make no mention of the Predator. It seems that he may show up farther along in the movie. Considering the depth that must be drilled to reach the Aliens, the Predator may be a late arrival who uses the humans' own passage to the temple".

There's been talk of a Predator vs. Aliens movie for ages now, at least since the end of Predator 2, where they show what looks like an Alien's head mounted on the wall of the Predator's spaceship. Shortly after, Dark Horse Comics did a mini series about the two aliens duking it out on a remote planet, with a group of humans getting caught in the middle. I'd love to see it happen, but I'll believe when I see it.

“Alien vs. Predator” Now in Pre-Production, Filming Set for October

Producer: John Davis
Director/Writer: Paul Anderson
Casting Directors: Donna Isaacson and Christian Kaplan
Start Date: Late October, 2003
Location: Prague

This new film will not involve any of the human characters from the films’ previous efforts, instead using entirely new individuals. As reported by several news sources, the story looks to involve human scientists going on an expedition to Antarctica to lure Predator hunters, using Alien eggs as bait. Of course, these plans quickly goes awry and the humans find themselves in the crossfire between two warring alien species.

Among the characters are:

Alexia “Lex” Homer: In her late 20s, Lex is stunning, buff, courageous, and intelligent, as well as the heroine of this film. She is an environmental researcher hired by Weyland Industries to keep everyone on the expedition “alive,” as the head of the company puts it. A tough cookie, with a good sense of humor, she has a history of guts and glory having been the youngest to climb Mount Everest without oxygen tanks. Lex is initially second in command to Max Stafford, but when all hell breaks loose, she must assume full leadership of the remaining crew. She is not only a survivor, but a true warrior as well.

Sebastian Wells: Wells is an American archeologist in his early 30s who is very passionate about his work. Described as “unshaven and rumpled, yet also handsome and charming,” Sebastian joins the team and has an instant chemistry with Lex. His expertise, and fervid beliefs often has him butting heads with his boss, whom he feels has his priorities askew.

Verheiden: A tanned, muscular European, Verheiden is an Egyptologist who is just as much “at home with manual labor as with a text book.” He also has a romantic history with Lex, which ended rather precariously. This is evident when they are reunited on Weyland’s team, and Verheiden notices that Sebastian is his likely rival. The casting agents are looking for someone who speaks with a strong accent.

Charles Weyland: In his early 40s, Weyland is a driven billionaire industrialist with blue eyes and shock of dark black hair, giving him the air of a sportsman or movie star. This zealous, all-knowing patron of science has a secret beneath his virile bravado and cultured manner: He is dying of cancer. He is a man rapidly decaying, with his signature 9-iron golf club really serves as his cane and his cataracts disguised by blue contact lenses. Weyland has no intention of dying without first leaving a legacy for humankind. He finances the expedition, chooses its team members and insists on coming along— no matter what the consequence to his health.

Max Stafford: An “elegant, handsome man of Afro-Caribbean descent,” he is well over 6 feet tall and speaks with a clipped, precise English accent. Max is Charles Weyland’s right arm - a loyal spokesman and ex-soldier whose job is to assemble and lead the expedition team.

Quinn: He is muscular, arrogant and brutish, a leathery skinned Texan who is in charge of the expedition’s drill team. Quinn must face the aliens alone, and ends up narrowly escaping death. According to the character notes, his second confrontation with the enemy doesn’t go nearly as well, it seems.

Miller: A dedicated scientist who looks the part. He wears thick glasses, and his age is undeterminable. He's also a bit clumsy and is self-effacing and awkward around women - something Lex notices firsthand. A chemical engineer, Miller is an integral part of the expedition whose astute observations and knowledge of metallurgy help unlock the mystery behind Weyland’s discovery.

We have to wait until 2004 to see it though, but I can't wait that long, I want it now.

I remember hearing about Cameron in talks to do the next Alien movie if Fox didn't go ahead and starts pre-production on Aliens Vs Pred. Oh well.

I'm not sure....Anderson usually turns in sub-par action movies....(the only real exception I have is Soldier, which was good)

Heck, I'm not sure I even like the concept of Aliens vs Predator. Who knows though. It may be cool. The problem with this type of film is that there isn't going to really be any winner to the fight (I use Freddy vs Jason as my example).

I'm not sure. This may be cool.

On a side note: I recently saw a Batman short fan made film that was Batman vs. Aliens vs. Predator.
Pretty cool (but not a real movie).

In my opinion, in theory it seems like a nice idea, who wouldn't want to see aliens and predators fighting it out on the big screen? Unfortunately though can you actually imagine this being done well? I think it's gonna be a huge flop and they'll mess it up big time. I'm hoping they prove me wrong though...

(I'm sorry for bringing such a old thread to forefront again, but I would like to comment on this movie)

Wow...I can't believe it's been that long since it was released...I actually watched it again the other day...

1. If they had edited out the scenes with the humans in it, and just showed the Aliens and Preditors in WCW or UFC action scenes, I would have been perfectly happy with that.
a. The sub plot with the humans really meant nothing to me...
b. The first two Preditors got killed off entirely to fast...I wanted to see the Preditors, in all their glory or strenths, do their thing...I was robbed of that...
c. The Preditors were way to careless and over confident in thier approach, it's like they weren't taking the 'match' all that seriously...like it was a football game to them.
d. It's hard for me to visualize such primitave behaving, and bulky large handed reptilian beings, being so technologicly advanced...I just can't see them handling fine computer chips with their large hands and claws...or being interested in physics and other advanced mathmatics...
Rather I see them running around like 'sleestacks' (land of the lost) on their home planet.

2. The Aliens had a very short gestation period...like 30 minutes from egg to adult
a. I mean like one minute they were eggs, 30 minutes later they were full size adults or teenagers...what did they eat to grow so fast
b. Why are the aliens so 'mean'? They just seem to have a rotten disposition.
c. In real life such a creature could not exist, being that their blood is acid...the acid in their blood would kill all the nutrients being delivered to their bodies...
d. The aliens have no muscles...their very boney...in real life they wouldn't be very strong.

I enjoy the movie though, I love the battle scenes between to formitable aliens...
In this movie, the Preditors kinda brought the aliens down to size...showed they could be handled and tackled and even beat up, when faced with another equally equipted Alien species...

In the other movies, the Aliens just seemed so 'viscious' and 'undefeatable'...it was nice to see the Jock, football player Preditors bring them down to size...

As garbage as this maybe and as senseless as the plot is and it is. For that factor of Hey! what a great idea, lets make some money here. Forget about themes and other such necessities. The intelligent thing here people is to make money. Lets stop trying to make the Predator look realistic. We can get bye with them looking fake. You can see the rubber moving, it's embarrassing. There's very existence of logic would be unphatomable but what do you expect. You knew they were going to bring this one back to earth. You can imagine them around a large table convincing themselves that that'll make it more believable and grounded. I can here the producers sales pitch in my ear and the studio heads seeing dollar bills in there eyes. All this bad mouthing and to be honesty i'm ashamed to say I still rather liked the film. In no way is it good or even passable. I know it's terrible but when something is so right ah ah im mean so wrong. there's astonishment bewilderment followed by embarrassment that in fact you were entertained by it, as bad as it my feel you can't shake yourself of this truth.
